He let out a slow breath. "Elle... I love you. And I'm... committed to you, and definitely want to make this work." He paused. "That said...." He looked over at her. "Consent... is important to me. And it will continue to be important to me, even after we get engaged or married."
"I... suppose, some of it goes back to Carmen," he said with a shrug. "She was nervous about... a lot, including intimacy. And I know that's not the case with you but... asking for consent just... seems basic. No one should ever just be... assuming stuff when it comes to sex. That... doesn't seem right." He looked at her, frowning slightly. "I mean... doesn't that make sense?"
She'd frown. "Yeah...but I guess I just assumed that that was part of...trust and communication. That...I trust you to try to do what you think is best for me, and that you trust me to communicate if there's an issue. I'm...not asking you to force me to do anything just...assume we're on the same page about things or..." She'd trail off shaking her head slightly. They'd already been through this. "I guess...having to ask for permission every time sort of seems like a lack of trust or...communication or...something you know?"
He shook his head. "I don't see it that way at all. I think that there should be more communication before, during and after sex than... almost anything else, because of the nature of how intimate it is." He smiled just a bit. "Besides, you don't think telling me what you want isn't just a little bit of a turn on?"
He took Elle's hands in her own and looked at her, smiling softly. "Elle... I'm not very good at speech making. Which is why I wrote out everything in those letters. You are... brave. And beautiful. And kind and..." He let out a slow breath, trying to get rid of some of his nerves. "I don't want to start next year as... just boyfriend and girlfriend." He moved away from her just a bit as he pulled a box out of his pocket and dropped down to one knee. "Elle Dane... will you marry me?" he asked as he opened the box.
She'd shake her head laying down the magazine. "Sorry...it's not your fault it just...it's hard month after month you know? I asked at St. Mungos when I was there for my last check-up and the Healer did a quick check and didn't find any reason it shouldn't be happening so..." She'd shrug. "It just...it's hard sometimes."
She'd shrug. "It couldn't hurt but...they said if it's not working that there's a ninety percent chance it's me. I may go back in so they can run some tests and discount some of the more common things."
He frowned. "Okay. That... seems a bit odd that it would be so... heavily bent on you. Is there anything I can do to... help you? Emotionally or... otherwise? I don't want you to feel like you're... a problem or anything."
She'd make an unhappy noise. "I don't know Thomas. I mean...getting pregnant is a lot more on my body than yours. Things have to sync up correctly and even things like me being too stressed or half a dozen other things could reduce the chances. I just...thought it would be easier than this."
"Oh." She'd pause. "Look Thomas...it's not that I don't want to talk about getting pregnant it's just...frustrating to not have any idea what's going on or why things aren't working. I just wish I had some answer you know?" She'd pause again. "...but I guess if you wanted we could talk about baby names?"
"It could be. I'm not married to the idea, but if it works, it works." He shrugged. "There's also traditions of naming boys after Biblical figures, and giving girls names that are virtues or whatever. I'm certainly not invested in either of those traditions."
She'd think about that. "So...you and Mark have biblical names and then Charity and Faith make sense..." She'd look curious. "What happened with Melinda? That's not a virtue and...I don't think it's a...biblical name?"
She'd nod. "Ah. So then, I suppose if it's a boy we'll try to find a Something Thomas that works...and I have no issues talking about virtuous names for girls, though like you said we don't have to do that. We'd need to make sure we don't have someone already named that like another Jonathan or with Melinda's middle name since that can get weird."
She'd nod. "Yeah...so what do you think goes well with Thomas?"
OOC: I can't seem to remember Aria or Jonathan's middle names and couldn't find them anywhere here or on your sandbox...did we not give them middle names? I remember talking about them but can't seem to find them...
He considered and shook his head. "No. I don't think I ever really... thought about what I'd name my kids growing up. But... I guess something with a B could be kind of cute? With Bagman? Bella or Beth or... something?"
