She knew Ash would still be around if she needed anything, but she doubted she would. It was just a few moments before Dakota was due to arrive and she was pacing slowly, back and forth, in front of the fireplace. She'd sent Emily over to Elle's to play with her cousins.

Jewel had let him in. He had just apparated in from Hogsmeade to the doorstep of Prince Castle. He adjusted his tie and coat, smoothing his hair over and running his hand over his face to make sure he hadn't missed any part of his shave this morning. He then took a deep breath and stepped into the parlor, immediately freezing at the doorstep. His voice cracked as he struggled to contain his emotions. "Faith?"

He nodded slowly and swallowed his emotions down for the moment. "I was in Hogsmeade, I don't really remember why. I don't remember any specifics, but I was kidnapped by anti-half-breed activists. They wiped my memory... and," he paused and shook his head to try and clear it. "Left me on streets of New York. The No-Maj cops picked me up at some point, brought me to the hospital where they did what they could for me before turning me back to live on the street. Which is where I stayed, until a former student found me, brought me to the American magical hospital where they treated me for my memory loss." He stopped and paused for a second. "I don't why the terrorists did what they did, believe me, I've been asking myself the very same question. But I'm telling you Faith... that's the truth. I would never leave you or Emily willingly and without a fight. I swear that on my mother's grave." He stopped to let that hang for a second. Faith hopefully would remember how important Dakota's mom was to him. They did name their daughter after her. "You're the only family I have."

"No, I don't know why the chose to handle me that way. Tears pooled in her eyes, as much as she wished they wouldn't. "I have worked -- very hard -- to build a good life for me and Emily. It took a long time for me to decide you weren't coming back. And I couldn't bear to stay here with my siblings and all their perfect, happy marriages and families and be the sad, pathetic single working mother, so I left England. I accepted a job with Jaina in Norway, working for her. Emily has become very comfortable there. Karina and Alexander, Jaina's children, are like her siblings." She paused, but her eyes flashed, letting Dakota know that she wasn't finished yet. "Now, I understand that what happened to you was not your fault, and not something you wanted or intended, but it still happened. Emily hasn't even begun asking about you, at least not to me. You want to just re-enter our lives? Her life? Disrupt everything that I have worked the last seven years to build, on my own?" The last words were spoken with venom.

He held his ground. He had expected a reaction like that. "Maybe she hasn't asked about me because she knows it would only upset you. That's how I handled the situation with my own father. I never asked my mom about him because I knew it would hurt her, but I still had questions, unanswered questions that will forever remain that way. If Emily is anything like me, I'd wager that's why she hasn't asked," Dakota's eyes flashed a bit. "Faith, I understand why you're upset, but coming from someone who did grow up without a father. She's not better off. I got a job at Hogwarts again, teaching Magical Theory. I'm looking to buy back our old house. I'm doing everything I can to try and be a good father. I will not be like my own father, to let her go on thinking that I abandoned my own wife and child because I couldn't handle it. You and Emily are the only family I have left, in case you'd forgotten." He said trying to keep the edge off his voice. He was really sick and tired of how his supposed family all were angry at him for something that was entirely out of his control, how they were all telling him that they were better off without him, that he should just leave and actually abandon his family

"You have taken a job at Hogwarts... that's going to keep you here in a more permanent fashion for the next several months." Another pause to process. "Why don't you... write a letter to Emily." She looked at Dakota. "Spare her unnecessary details. I can fill in gaps if she has questions with age-appropriate information. I'll give her the letter after we return to Norway, and you can continue your correspondence with her over the last few months of your academic year. When summer arrives, assuming she wants to, I can bring her back to England for a visit, and we can discuss the next steps at that time. Does that seem... reasonable?"
