Personality
Liam has always grown up being labeled as the perfect older brother, the perfect role model, the perfect student, the perfect everything. People often first perceive him as an intimidating and pompous person. But those who really know Liam know otherwise. Liam has always felt uncomfortable constantly being in the limelight at school and always being the person his brother looked up to. However, he always hid that feeling so he could always do his best. Liam never felt he could depend on someone, as he was always the one being depended on, and thus he keeps his troubles to himself and knows how to fend for himself. He's extremely protective, especially of his brother, Carter.
At first glance, he's a little scary-a strong and silent image, and when people first see him they know they do not want to cross him. He doesn't talk much at all. At first when he meets you he can be a little aggressive and rough, but if he lets you become close to him he's really pretty awkward, which is both cute and cringe-worthy. He only acts standoffish at first since he's used to getting hit and learning to defend himself a lot, so he's a little wary of everyone he comes across. Most of the time he acts really cold and intimidating, but if you manage to fluster her in some way he comes a stammering mess. Really, though, at heart he's a lovable dork who just isn't used to being close to others.

History
Liam Hwang was born into the pure-blood Hwang family a year after his sister Min-Young was born and then adopted by an unknown family, and a year before his brother Chae-Yeol was born. At the time of his birth, Liam was named Hwang Hyun-ki by his parents Dong-Hae and Bo-Mi. Growing up, Hyun-kil was never informed that he had a sister somewhere out there in the world, he was led to believe that Chae-Yeol was his only sibling, and Chae-Yeol was told the same thing. Dong-Hae and Bo-Mi, despite believing they could raise their children, never did an overly good job at doing so. Being young themselves, they often went off on their own little adventures and hired nannies to raise Chae-Yeol and Hyun-Ki. Hyun-ki matured and grew up very quickly, personality-wise, mostly because he constantly looked after and cared for Chae-Yeol, due to the constant absence of their parents.
It wasn't long until Hyun-ki was taught how to use his magical skills at the age of five, as his nanny Seol-Hyun was also a pure-blood wizard who had attended a wizarding school. Seol-Hyun taught the brothers most of the things she knew about magic, but left some of it for their parents to explain when it was time for Chae-Yeol and Hyun-Ki to attend a wizarding school themselves. But until that time came, Seol-Hyun continued to teach the brothers about magic. At school, Chae-Yeol didn't know how to defend himself, and was constantly bullied, and he relied on Hyun-ki. Hyun-ki never hesitated to do so, but always paid the price in the end.
All was well for Hyun-ki and Chae-Yeol, after all Dong-Hae and Bo-Mi were planning on moving the family to England after Bo-Mi had gotten a job offer in Gloucester. But when the two went to go look for a house to buy, they had went missing and were never found. During this time Hyun-ki looked after Chae-Yeol and tried his best to make sure Chae-Yeol didn’t worry and he was in good health. A month after, Seol-Hyun had then legally adopted Chae-Yeol and Hyun-Ki. After following their parents wishes she moved to Gloucester with Chae-Yeol and Hyun-Ki at the age of six and seven respectively.
Upon their arrival in Gloucester, Chae-Yeol and Hyun-Ki had their names legally changed to Carter Hwang and Liam Hwang respectively. Seol-Hyun continued to teach Liam about the magical world up until the age of nine, and since his parents were no longer around to inform him of Hogwarts, she took it upon herself to give him the needed information about the school, and informed Liam that he'd be going when he turned eleven years of age. When Liam finally went off to Hogwarts, he felt relieved of the burden to constantly look after his brother and do everything right to set an example. However, at the same time he dearly missed him and constantly worried about Carter’s well-being.
A year later, it was time for Carter to go off to Hogwarts as well.. Before he left though, Seol-Hyun gave Carter a letter that was writing by his mother Bo-Mi, and instructed him not to read it until he was with Liam. After leaving for Hogwarts, Liam welcomed Carter and when the two were alone they read the letter from their mother. In the letter it explained to them about their sister who might be attending Hogwarts.
