Outside the shop is a forest of different flowers and plants. Bees fly around followed by butterflies of all colours. Some benches and old tables made from shaped iron are located outside and one on the inside, lovely to sit on in the Summer months. There stands a small door in the flower covered wall and as you walk in, your eyes adjust to the explosions of colour inside. Close to the right side wall, there sits a desk surrounded by flowers.

Avery had made the mistake of trying to leap from a wheelchair to immediately trying to walk with her prosthetic. Avery had been dumb enough to go against her doctor and therapist's recommendations, and now she was facing the consequences. She had been set back in her recovery both physically and psychologically, and now she was bound to a wheelchair again and slowly trying to regain her mobility while trying to not have a break down every night. It's been a ride! But through it all, Avery has been kept sane by the idea of seeing Niks and Luka again. It's what compells her to get off her ass today with the help of her aunt, who had, as promised, left her right outside Jolies Fleur. "Helloooo? Looking for a pretty lady that works around here somewhere," she calls out, once she's finally managed to wheel herself into the establishment. "Any idea where she might be?"

Niks hasn't seen Avery in ages so the moment she hears her voice ringing through the shop, she quickly apologizes to the customer she's talking to and rushes towards where she heard the voice coming from. "Avery!" she exclaims, looking past the endless rows of flowers before her eyes finally land on her best friend... who seems to be in a wheelchair. Huh. The smile on her face falters a bit, but Niks manages to keep it on her face. "What... happened?"

Seeing the look on her face, Avery starts shaking her head vigorously. "No, no, no, nothing bad. I'm okay, I'm okay! I mean, I'm missing a leg, so I guess I'm not completely okay, but I'm alive and everything! I'm good!" Avery shifts slightly, hitching her flowy pant leg up slightly to show her best friend the temp she'd been knocked back down to. "It was an accident, okay? But I'm doing better now, and that's why I wasn't very responsive. I am so sorry about that, by the way. Between the amputation and the adjustments, it wasn't really easy, but I —" Avery cuts herself off to take a deep breath. She needs to be more careful about setting off on a tangent. Any faster and Niks might not understand her. "I promise on my favorite surfboard I'm okay now."

At this point, Niks is frowning, though it's obvious it's coming from a place of concern. Honestly, she could cry, but Avery seems to be very insistent that everything is okay and she doesn't want to be overly emotional. That might just upset Avery, which is the last thing Niks wants to do. "It's okay! Don't be sorry, oh my gosh, it's so fine." she says. "What happened?" Niks asks, her brow furrowing. "If you... don't mind talking about it."

Avery's heart cracks a little when Niks frowns, if only because she's terrified she'll start crying. Then she'll start crying, and they'll both be very emotional surrounded very poetically by gorgeous, blooming flowers. "It was a surfing accident! A little girl was drowning, and nobody in her group knew how to swim. The lifeguard wasn't anywhere to be found, so naturally, I was like — y'know, I can't let a kid just die when I can save her — so I grabbed my board and went out there, but the currents were strong and dragged us out," she explains, "I didn't think it'd happen, but I inconveniently forgot I couldn't perform underage magic, and especially not around a muggle, so when the currents dragged us out, I panicked a little. It turns out there were sharks, and they really don't like it when you get in their space. So, y'know, off my leg went, and after that, everything's a blur but apparently someone got a hold of the lifeguard, who rescued us, and now here I am several months later confined to a wheelchair because I stubbornly tried to wear a prosthetic too soon." Avery grimaces. "Long story short, I wasn't born to be a hero."

After hearing the story, Niks can't help but start to tear up, and she's quiet while listening mostly because she knows if she talks anytime soon, her voice will crack and then she'll be a crying mass. Breathing in and out before finally composing herself, she smiles a little. "You are so brave. You are a hero!" she insists. She motions for Avery to follow her towards the counter so Niks can take a seat too and they can be level, and when they are, she reaches out to take Avery's hand and squeeze it reassuringly. "I am so unbelievably proud of you – and hey! This'll all be fine soon enough." Niks reassures her, "You'll recover soon and you'll be able to wear a prosthetic in no time."

"Hey, why are you crying?" Avery isn't surprised at all. She saw it coming from a mile away. But either way, it makes her heart crumble a little more, and she's immediately reaching out to hold her best friend's hand. "Oh, I wouldn't call myself a hero..." She musters a smile, but now her eyes are watery, and ugh. She sniffles a little and shakes her head, laughing softly. "Yeah, I'll get better. I just wish I'd listened to my therapist the first time around, y'know?"

She feels a bit bad because now she's gone and made Avery cry too, but also Niks can't help it. The entire situation is making her incredibly emotional. "It's fine; I get that you were excited to wear a prosthetic so what happened was definitely valid and you shouldn't fault yourself." she reassures her, not wanting Avery to blame herself in the slightest. "Does anyone else know?" Does Luka? Niks wants to ask, really.

"I wouldn't say excited," she admits. In that moment, her accent sounds thicker, laced with a lot of emotion. She should have expected Niks to burst into tears, so she finds it especially hard to really hold it against her — not that she would on a normal basis, really. But if Avery wants to get through this conversation, she'll need to calm herself down a bit, so that's what she's trying to do as she sniffles, fanning herself with her hands. "I guess it was more denial that it had happened, I guess. I've gotten a lot of weird looks for it, and a flying wheelchair doesn't really help." The mention of Luka makes Avery wince. "...sort of?"

Niks raises an eyebrow at 'sort of'. Maybe it's because she sympathizes with being in the situation of having the person you're dating disappear for a bit and come back with some sort of handicap, but she immediately frowns. "What do you mean... sort of?" she asks, though Niks doesn't sound upset. Just confused. "Does she know? Have you seen her yet?"
