Remy's career-centered life was both a vice and a virtue. On one hand, he liked his occupation and the career path he had taken to get to it. He didn't mind the long hours spent in his office, focusing on his department in the Ministry and, more specifically, the education system within Hogwarts Wizarding School. On the other, because of all the time he spent for work, there was a limited amount left for his personal life. Thankfully, he didn't have much of one. When he had time to spend with someone, that someone was usually his brother. Zayn. Today was a different occasion, though. He had plans with his brother still, but it wasn't Zayn. Instead, it was his biological half-brother, Dragomir. Remy didn't know how to categorize a relationship like theirs—were they even close? Not like how he and his adoptive brother were. But did all those years trading letters and messages and meeting every once a while count them as at least partially close? He'd like to think so because he wanted to be close with Dragomir. He had reached out a long time ago the same way he had with his biological mother to at least say that he tried to know more about his family... and he liked to think it had been a successful attempt. Now, with both spending their time in England, there was no need to be pen pals. He invited Dragomir out for lunch just yesterday, planning around his work schedule, and was excited to see him. Family was important to Remy, especially when it came to his siblings. While waiting at the table, the waiter brought out chips and salsa, which he snacked on while typing out a text to his mom.

Luka had been, for the past day, as bitchy as she usually was with a little more sharpness to it. Suppose both Eden and Florence should be glad Luka was living in Hogwarts rather than at home and didn't have to be near her. She thinks she has given people more detentions in the past day than she had the past year put together and honestly-they deserved it the little twats. However, it had been the short exchange of texts between her and Avery that had caused her mood to sharply decline. Merlin save her-she nearly went and looked for Niks to ask her if she knew anything. But Luka's pride didn't allow her. She didn't want need to know Avery turned to someone else before Luka. She was also tempted to turn up at St. Mungos as well but Avery probably didn't want that. So, instead, she stayed true to what she said and waited till she met up at Jamie's...thirty minutes ahead of schedule but alas-she could finish up some readings as she waited.

Avery showed up fifteen minutes early with the sole intention of Luka not having to see her struggle as she makes her way in. It's been... a month, since everything happened? Maybe a bit less? And she still isn't used to losing her leg. More than that, she still hasn't acclimated to everything that happened in her little trip. Finding out about — well, everything — has been difficult to cope with, so she's more than grateful she's returned to Scotland, even if she's in aw worse shape than when she left. Nobody's going to judge, right? Well, turns out she was wrong. She's already been dealing with her neighbor's criticism that the trip to St. Mungo's and down to Hogsmeade has been rough. At least three different kids have commented on it and their respective mothers have eyed her weirdly. It's infuriating, dehumanizing, and Avery's lost her faith in a whole lot more people than she thought she would. So seeing Luka already at a table when she walks in, clutching her crutches so tightly her knuckles are white, she panics at first. She doesn't know what Luka is going to say, or if she'll even realize; she is wearing long, flowy pants that hide her temp well enough, even if her stiff posture and the whole 'avoiding putting pressure on her residual limb out of innate fear of falling' thing might scream something else. She exhales, evidently nervous, and licks her bottom lip before slowly making her way to the table. "Hi," she mumbles, mustering what little energy she has left for a small smile.

Luka might not have picked up on the loss of a leg but the crutches drew her eyes downwards but decided to assume she broke an ankle rather than a complete-but if that was the case why wasn't it healed with magic? The thought made Luka's frown deepens. If it wasn't for magic, she might already have a face full of wrinkles. She slowly stood up when Avery came close, moving to help her if Avery needed it. "Hey," she said. Maybe Luka had missed Avery-more than she cared to admit and the disappearance had weighed on her more than she liked to admit. Still-she wasn't throwing herself at Avery. "What happened to your leg?" She asked, cutting straight to the point. Because why beat around it? Luka hated being in the dark. Every text she sent Avery left unanswered and with each one, Luka's mood darkened. Hell, she even tried emailing her.

Avery shakes her head when Luka stands up, not wanting her help. It isn't personal. She just hates how the altercation last month left her, and all the feelings that have accompanied the loss of her leg. Guilt, mostly. But also helplessness and extreme exhaustion. Doing anything takes effort now. Moving, walking, showering. And during the nights, when she's supposed to be granted some reprieve, nightmares keep her up, taunting her about everything she did and the price she had to pay for it. Mingled with the horrible cases of phantom pain, and her anxiety, Avery looks worse for wear. Even then, she looks relieved to be back with her almost-girlfriend. The question has her pursing her lips, and rather than replying, she hunches over, lifting the leg of her pants just enough for Luka to see the temp there. "Like I said, I had an accident."

Luka pursed her lips, only flicking her eyes to the temp before back to Avery's face, biting back the hurt that Avery wasn't elaborating. But it wasn't the time. Or the place. Who knew was listening in on them. Still, Luka wanted to know. She didn't like being in the dark-no, she hated it. "Right," she said, not meaning to sound terse but she was so stressed that it was her default tone now. She thought that this mood would dissolve the moment she saw her almost girlfriend. But she supposed it would have dissolved because her answers would have been answered, that she would have seen Avery be fine, but instead she was given more questions. A barely standing Avery. Maybe she wasn't her girlfriend officially, but she'd known Avery for so long-she was friends with her for years before getting romantically involved. Maybe that's why she hesitated putting a label on them. Girlfriends seemed so inadequate. "Do you want to talk about it?" Luka just decided to give Avery the window to either close or open. Whether she wanted Luka to ignore it and talk about something else.

Luka might be reluctant to face the question of why they haven't stuck a label on it yet, but Avery's had it clear from the start. Even though they've crossed the point of no return — the dates, affection, touches — there's still something unsettling about giving their relationship a label. It makes it real. Inescapable. Not that she'd want to escape it, but at the same time, what if it all goes wrong? Avery cares more about their long-lasting friendship than being romantically involved with Luka, and she doesn't mean it in any bad way. She's genuinely afraid that losing what they have will end up with her losing all of it. To wake up one day and only have the memories of a relationship that never should've been. It's that fear that's held them, or at least her, back. Buuuut on the other hand, she did almost die, and she still could die (depending how dramatic she wants to be), so maaaybe slapping a label onto it is something they should consider? Life being short and all. Bloody hell I'm horrible at this, she muses internally as she catches the flicker of hurt she could swear she saw on Luka's face. She presses her lips into a thin line and musters a tired smile. "I, um — I saw someone from my childhood. Or... what was left of him, anyways," she replies, doing nothing to stop the sigh that follows the response. "A friend of my dad's, from his — our — village back home in Australia. Except he... wasn't really a friend anymore, I suppose. Not to me." How's she supposed to explain to Luka everything she found out without scaring her away? "He was mad at me and wanted revenge. Decided my leg was good payback. But at least he was generous and only went up to my knee, right?" Avery laughs weakly. Too soon? Probably.

Luka wasn't going to be scared off by this. Honestly-she didn't have high expectations for the opposite gender. This really sounded like something one should expect. To be fair, the only man who has had a significant impact on her life is her father and he surely did set the standard of Luka's expectations. "He hasn't gotten away with it, has he?" She asked, her eyes still levelled on Avery. Some people found that unsettling-the way she could stare at someone. Intimidating. It was probably the way her eyes were almost always slightly narrowed, as if she was suspicious of everything around her. But Luka did it subconsciously. At least people knew they had her full attention. Luka pursed her lips at the bad joke. She hadn't quite reached the point where she can laugh it off. Then again-she might never reach that point. "I didn't realise you did anything for someone to be that angry at you..." Luka wanted to feed into her own insecurities. That maybe Luka didn't know Avery as well as she had thought. But...Avery was trying. So Luka was going to curb her own pessimism. Eden would love to see it. "How have you been handling it?"
