Probably the most immediate thing about Hudson's personality is his passion for his job. He's not a workaholic who talks 24/7 about what he does but, when he does speak about it, there's a clear love for what he does and he always seems to be overflowing with ideas. The same passion does extend into other areas of his life but, for the most part, it's most evident in talk of his work. Hudson treats everything with the similar care and love that he uses when doing his job; it's how he wants to live his life and he thinks that adding in any negativity into the world is counterproductive. Thus, whilst he doesn't strive all the time to make everybody happy, he does his best to make those close to him be in a good mood most of the time. Perhaps surprisingly, Hudson isn't exactly the funniest guy around. He doesn't understand some humour - blame an isolationist approach during his time at Hogwarts - but he tries his best to get involved. He's partial to sarcasm, only because he finds it's the type that a lot of people use and he enjoys the smiles it elicits from some people. In general, Hudson is very much a 'what you see is what you get' kinda guy. He doesn't like to be secretive or lead people on and tries his best to be honest. He's not so much a 'brutal honesty' kinda guy, preferring a gentler approach, but he'll always offer the truth whenever need be.
Hudson does, however, tend to be an isolationist so to speak. He might not actively push people away but, for the most part, he's used to being alone and if he finds himself overwhelmed in a social situation he might retreat for a few days with very little correspondence. He likes to describe himself as an introverted extrovert, loud and confident but also takes time to reach that stage when around new people. Of course, when he's in his professional work mode, that doesn't apply because the love for his job takes over but, otherwise, he is largely susceptible to feeling awkward. He handles all negative emotions - especially sadness and anger - in a similar way. He'll remove himself from whatever setting he's in, even if he isn't in one, and will keep himself to himself for a couple of days, much like he does when he needs recharge from too much social interaction. When alone, he expels whatever emotion he's feeling in a number of ways. From practising spells, to brewing potions, to writing it down and burning it; he does whatever he's in the mood for and, usually, it works. It's extremely rare for Hudson to unleash his negative emotions onto anyone. If he does, it's either a sign that he's been pushed far too deep into whatever emotion he's conveying or, on a brighter note, said person receiving it has been deemed close enough by him as he figures internally that all can be forgiven with an explanation. Needless to say, with that knowledge, Hudson chooses his close friends very meticulously and becoming one isn't an easy feat - especially if you're from work; he likes to keep work and personal life separate if he can.
Hudson Radley's story begins with that of his mother, Euphodora Abbott. Now, Euphoroda was always a little different when it came to her approach on life. Whilst her siblings married strictly within the wizarding world, she wanted to venture out and experience muggle life. With the Abbotts being among the more lenient in the Sacred Twenty-Eight, her parents made no attempts to stop her and, in fact, encouraged her. Soon after graduating from Hogwarts, Euphodora ventured into the muggle world and, well, was in her element. Sure she relied on magic for some things privately at home but, for the most part, she threw herself into muggle life.
It was in her new life that she met Macen Radley, a muggle her age who was striving for a degree in medicine. The two fell head over heels for one another and, after a few years of dating, got married at the young age of twenty-three. Everything, truthfully, seemed to be going perfectly for the young couple. They had bought a house together, adopted a German Shepherd named Calico and were thinking about starting a family together. However, in a night of drunken mistakes, Macen went missing. Hours turned to days and days turned to months. His story was all over muggle news, so much so that Euphodora felt like she couldn't go anywhere without being questioned on her thoughts, how she was dealing with it. She had no answers, no thoughts, none - until his remains were discovered only minutes away from what would've been help on his final night. For her, that was the last straw. Dropping Calico off with her parents, she escaped for a trip in America to escape it all. The ten month trip, funded by her parents, was her chance to escape it all before returning to the wizarding world - the safer world away from all the memories.
As expected, time away from the muggle Britain did wonders for Euphodora's mental health. She perked up quickly and found herself feeling like her again. Of course, she was prone to bouts of sadness and it was in one of those bouts that she fell pregnant. In a night of mourning Macen, Euphodora had decided to go out to party where she hooked up with a man - Horatio Douglas. She knew him as a neighbour of sorts who was attractive but their connection ended there. She didn't know she was pregnant at first and it was only at the urge of some friends that she took a test and it was all revealed. She and Horatio attempted a relationship but it fell through; Euphodora felt as if she had betrayed Macen in a moment of weakness and would rather the child over Horatio. Eventually, nine months later, she gave birth to a son, naming him Hudson Nicodemus Lancelot Radley-Abbott. She moved back to England promptly after giving birth, settling in her native village of Godric's Hollow.
Despite a turbulent beginning behind his conception, Hudson lived a fairly ordinary life for that of a young person with a single witch parent. Euphodora was always torn on how she wanted to raise her son; no matter how bad the memories of the muggle world she had attached to the thought, she knew Hudson was half-muggle and that, to her, was important to honour. Thus, for his entire education until Hogwarts, Hudson was educated in the muggle school located just outside of Godric's Hollow. Whilst his mother never shied from using magic in front of him, she did it in seldom so that he wouldn't talk excessively about it at school. As any young child would, Hudson was captivated by it and a prominent memory of his was begging his mother to show him more magic and, much to his disappointment, she'd always refuse with stating that she was waiting for a perfect time.
Said time came around Hudson's seventh birthday. After a rare trip to Hogsmeade where his grandparents lived, Hudson threw a tantrum over no longer being immersed with magic and having to go back to the more muggle lifestyle. It was an occurrence that happened with every trip following his heightened interest in magic and, every time, Euphodora never failed to feel guilty as if she was robbing a wizard of the magic-filled childhood she had. During this tantrum, Hudson had managed to catch a rug alight from stamping his foot on it a multitude of times. It took Euphodora a second to realise what had happened - originally thinking it was her fault despite her being in another room - and she felt herself fill with joy. Hudson, expecting a reprimanding despite not knowing how he caused such a thing to happen, was surprised to see his mother ecstatic. From that moment on, magic became more and more integrated in their daily lives with the promise that he didn't mention it at school which, naturally so, Hudson didn't in fear he'd have to go back to the purely muggle lifestyle. It was in this period between his first magical experience and his letter of acceptance to Hogwarts that learned a few basic spells, ready for when he had his own wand. His mother began giving him storybooks that other magical children would've read and, in general, was trying to ensure that he would have no less knowledge than any of the pure-bloods at Hogwarts.
Upon turning eleven, Hudson got his letter of acceptance and already began to think about what house he'd be in. If it were down to him, he'd be in Hufflepuff like his mother and grandparents before him but, truthfully, he was so excited about the whole thing that he didn't care where he was sorted. Following news of his acceptance, his mother and grandparents took him to Diagon Alley where they would get every single supply he needed. He was even lucky enough, as per the generosity of his grandmother, to get a pet barn owl who he named Circe. Following that weekend, Hudson moved up to live with his grandparents in Hogsmeade for the remainder of the summer so he could be even more immersed in wizarding life, giving him the chance to use his wand a little bit, before returning back down to London so he could experience the Hogwarts Express.
At his Sorting Ceremony, Hudson was a hatstall between Ravneclaw and Hufflepuff; two houses he had singled out as being most appropriate for him on the train ride there. Though before he might've begged the hat to be in Hufflepuff, a newfound inclination on the train ride there made him want to be different from his family and, thus, he was sorted into Ravenclaw. He was rather content with the house he was sorted in and quite happily threw himself into Ravenclaw life.
During his time at Hogwarts, Hudson seemed to thrive in all of his subjects, going as far as to be on cordial terms with all of his professors. He joined the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team as a Beater and was able to boast a multiple of games that were swayed in Ravenclaw's favour due to his precision knocks on the bludgers. As expected of a Ravenclaw, Hudson achieved consistently good grades throughout his time at Hogwarts and he seemed set on being appointed Head Boy - his true aspiration. However, after failing to be named as a Ravenclaw Prefect, Hudson gave up hope on that dream and instead worked on getting the best N.E.W.T grades he could get - something in which he achieved in.
Following graduation from Hogwarts, Hudson settled back in his family home at Godric's Hollow. During his time at Hogwarts, his mother had gotten remarried and had given birth to two children; Byrok and Endelyn. Subsequently, space at the home was limited and Hudson was constantly urged to find a place of his own - not that he minded much. For a year or so after his graduation he worked at a secret magical shop masquerading as a muggle one in Godric's Hollow, renting a small flat in the town, before eventually moving on to Diagon Alley.
In Diagon Alley, Hudson hopped around a few jobs; Ollivanders, Madam Malkin's and a few cafes, just to name some. He eventually saw an opening as an intern at the Department of Magical Education in the Ministry and, seeing nothing better, applied. With being a successful applicant, Hudson applied the mentality he had when he had been sorted into Ravenclaw; he threw himself into his job. It took him sometime but, eventually, he was able to work his way to the top, becoming Head of Magical Education.
