"Alright, kids, button up and sit down. It's my first year of teaching here, so cut me some slack - you behave and I'll be nice. Welcome to Wizarding Law! Over these years I will be teaching you about various aspects of law in our magical world, from theory and the Ministry to practising it in a courtroom. There will be multiple opportunities for crafting your own prosecution and defences for cases, and even the possibility of earning placements at a renowned magical law firm, if you work hard enough. I'm pretty lenient with both house points and having a laugh - I intend this lesson to not be a drag, so don't be shy to answer questions or crack a joke. I'm here to have fun as well as teach."

"Morning, guys. I hope you had a nice first day back at Hogwarts. The name's Professor Harkness, I'll be your professor for Wizarding Law this year. So, I'm afraid your year has been lumbered with the more boring topic, but nevertheless, we'll chug through it - there's gold at the end. So, can someone tell me what the Ministry of Magic is?"

He raised his hand. "The magical government...?"

"Essentially, yes," he nods, scribbling Mo's words down on the board. "Any further facts about the Ministry?" He talks generally to the class, eyes moving over them.

He taps his pencil to his desk. There's various things to the ministry, all coming down to it being the government. "It happens to hold a lot of central power?" He offers, mainly wishing the class would move on and get into whatever point the professor was trying to make.

Clearly this is an incredibly enthusiastic class. Nodding at Graham's words, he writes as he speaks, "The Ministry of Magic is the main governing body of the magical community of the UK." Then he turns to the class, placing the chalk down. "Ten points to whoever can tell me when it was formed."

*Entering on this last, as if her cue.* "1707, along with the contemporaneous Muggle Act of Union - Ulick Gamp was the elected first Minister, and presided for eleven years over this successor to the Wizards' Council."

To be perfectly honest, Kohl mainly took this course because he loved to argue so why not put it to good use and join some sort of law class, Wizarding Law couldn't differ that much could it? Although he was excited for it and was ready to start taking people down with his words, he decided to stay quiet for now.

Walking in, Joaquin offers his class a welcoming grin as he sets his briefcase down and walks to the chalkboard, scribbling Practical Law across the blackboard in chalk. "Right, kids," he says, turning around and clapping his hands together. "Welcome to Wizarding Law! The name's Professor Harkness, and I'll be your professor for this year. So, this year, you get the exciting stuff -" Back to the board to write. "Laws and Legistures, with a practical aspect thrown in. Now, to begin with, can someone tell me some famous legistures of the Magic world?"

She raises her hand. "The Code of Wand Use in 1631." Dido had spent summer reading a lot of books to prepare for this class. She didn't get ready, she stayed ready.

Brynja very nearly objected to being called a 'kid', but she was, overall, too excited about this class being a thing to do so. "Well, if we're talking Britain exclusively maybe the Statute of Secrecy is the most profilic, but worldwide there's Rappaport's Law in the States which was essentially a massive extension of that, but that's no longer in effect."

Slightly taken aback at their knowledge, an impressed smirk crosses his face. "Looks like you guys did your homework. Five points to both your houses." He writes their examples on the board, the chalk leaving dust on his fingers. "Those are both excellent examples; we will be focusing on the UK this year, miss - Skovgaard, I believe? -  as from my own experience, American wizarding law is about as fun as trapping it in your zipper. Any more examples?"

"Morning, class! You've been applied to this class a little late but no bother - we can make this an enjoyable last year for you. Especially with the topic: Unforgivable Curses and their legal implications. So, let's begin with someone telling me what the Unforgivables are."

Ugh. She thought to herself. "The killing curse, Avada Kedavra, kills someone in a flash of green light. The imperius curse, imperio puts somebody or something totally under your control, and the cruciatus curse, Crucio, inflicts unbearable pain on the victim. Typically used for torture."

"Excellent," he chimes, writing down both of their examples on the board in chalk. "Five points to both of you. Yes, the Unforgivables - they'll get you into a spot of bother, legal-wise. What's the punishment for using any of them?"
