Written on the board in big, bold letters is OWLs & NEWTs: Transfiguration. To the top left corner, written in a smaller size, is Professor Selwyn, for the benefit of forgetful students. Evangeline is leaning back into her desk, hair pulled back into a high, messy ponytail as she waits patiently for all her students to file in. It's not until they're all seated comfortably and she's made sure everyone is in attendance that she clears her throat and begins to speak, offering the same advice she's offered to all other years. "Welcome, students, to your most vital years of Transfiguration education," she pauses, smiling amusedly at the lack of a cheery response. First day and they're already tired? "This course is by no means an easy one where you'll be able to 'breeze right through'. The syllabus was specifically designed to be arduous and demanding in an effort to prepare you all to be the very best of your generation. I discourage you all from taking on the challenge of procrastinating until the very end, seeing as I will not be providing extra credit work at any given point in the academic year. Transfiguration is a very serious course and one that you all need extensive knowledge on in order to to become productive members of wizarding society. Most of you, luckily, are already aware of this, though, seeing as you chose Transfiguration as a core class in a NEWT level. Nonetheless, my point remains. Study hard, and you will be rewarded. Fail to do so, and the consequences will be severe," she allows that to sink in for a moment, before smiling warmly. "Do not hesitate to approach my office after school. I'd be more than happy to help a student in need. Other than that... please do maximize this opportunity you all have at a marvelous education."

"Welcome, students, to your final year of OWL-level education in Transfiguration,," she pauses, laughing when she hears sighs of relief. "Yes, yes, congratulations. You're more than halfway through your education here at Hogwarts! Nonetheless, this is no excuse to slack off. This course is by no means an easy one where you'll be able to 'breeze right through'. The syllabus was specifically designed to be arduous and demanding in an effort to prepare you all to be the very best of your generation. Who here can tell me some things discussed last year, for the sake of a refresher? Spells, laws, theories. Anything and everything - I'll take it for what it is."
OOC: Seeing as last year classes weren't RPed, I'll take the following answers, though in depth: Cross-Species Switches, Chair to Cat, Hedgehog to Pincushion, Guinea Fowl to Guinea Pig, and the Hardening Charm!

Callum swallowed a little, being nervous that the headmistress was teaching them but he trie not to let that get to him. He just raised his hand before speaking up. "We learned the Hardening Charm last year, which judging by the name turns any object into stone. We took turns turning fruit, clothing and even everyday objects like chairs and desks into stone." He briefly explained, not wanting to get too into detail unless she asked.

"Two points to Ravenclaw and two to Gryffindor," she awards. "Does anyone here remember the wand movement and incantation for the hardening charm?"

“Doesn’t it go something like this?” Callum pulled out his wand and made what looked like a D in the air and muttered the incantation, “Duro!” Only he didn’t mean for the spell to work, and he turned Evangeline’s shoes to stone. His eyes got wide and his face red, “O-Oh my gosh I-I’m so sorry I didn’t mean to I didn’t think it would work-“

Briar glances at Callum and, after a moment's debate about whether to assist or laugh, takes out her wand – thank goodness for second year Charms – and creates the shape of a shield with her wand before aiming it at the headmistress' shoes. "Finite Incantatem!" Hopefully, no harm done.

In true Whitney du Mont fashion, this was the class she prepared most for. She raises her hand and says, "We studied the Owl to Opera glasses transfiguration, and discussed how it fits in with Gamp's laws of elemental transfiguration in terms of changing the biological make up of a living organism into that of an inanimate, if note banal, object - such as a pair of opera glasses. It also posited the question of why opera glasses and whether, with spell modification, it could become a more useful spell - perhaps reading glasses or binoculars in order to provide something more accessible in day-to-day wizardry." She says, leaning back, proud of her analysis.

Out of all the students Evangeline has taught so far, Whitney is the most obvious. Nonetheless, she can't say she minds. She's at least putting the effort in. "Two points to Hufflepuff," she says, waving her wand at the hourglass tor reflect the rewards. "Ms. Du Mont, will you kindly remind your classmates the incantation for the spell?" she prompts. With another wave of her wand, several owls appear, one on each student's desk. "I want you all to brush up your skills and give it a go. First student to succeed will receive ten points."

She straightens her back, and aims her wand at the Owl. She pictures and focuses on the molecular structure of the owl and how it would need to contort in order to take the form of opera glasses. "Strigiforma!" She recites the incantation, and it sounds like music to her ears.

She rolled her eyes as she listened to Whitney before rolling her eyes. "You're such a kiss ass," she drawled as she pulled out her own wand, one ear bud shoved into her ear whilst the other dangled out so she could listen. She poked the owl once or twice with her wand before pulling it back to chant, Strigiforma, though not with the same determination as Whitney.

There isn't an equilibrium between the viciousness, wand power and concentration, causing Phoebe's attempt to fail with no visible changes to the owl. Meanwhile, Whitney has more success, but she overestimates her wand power, leaving the owl partially transfigured into opera glasses.

First and foremost, Evangeline quickly fixes Whitney's problem, untransfiguring the owl-glasses hybrid. "Try again," she encourages, with a small smile that promptly disappears as she registers the earbud in Bat's ear. Evangeline approaches her desk, her expression blank as she extends her hand. "Four points from Gryffindor for inappropriate language and listening to music. Hand over your iPod and earphones, Ms. Seeiso," She waits, patiently, for the princess to deliver the items.

The smile from Evangeline pushes her to do better, she tries again, this time without so much force on her wand, the movement more fluid."

She shrugged with a thin, rather fake, smile before pulling out her earphone and phone, giving it over to her. Not like she didn't have another one in her bag. What could she say? She came prepared. "Whatever you say, prof," she said with a grin. She rolled her eyes as she noticed the change in attitude in Whitney. Sure, she lost points but...even the professor didn't disagree with her.

Her voice would be it's normal quiet tone. "Like most transfiguration spells you can jab your wand at your target but for conjuring birds it's best to use sort of an arched wiggle like two hills that sort of looks like a basic bird before jabbing your wand."

She'd let out a little sigh and stand making room. She'd gotten a little better at spellwork but her spells still rarely turned out quite right or could be as powerful as they were supposed to. She'd be lucky to get a single bird. She'd concentrate on the conjuration spell then give her wand a slight wave and flick replicating the wand movement she'd described and incanting in her quiet voice. "Avis."
