In Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the many underage wizards and witches are kept under control by the teachers through the many rules set there.
Any miscreants are usually punished by the teachers or the Ministry of Magic, and the form of punishment depends on the severity of the mischief. Some detentions may overlap with student events, such as Quidditch and Hogsmeade weekend trips, in which the punishment would take priority, forcing the student to forgo said events.
Such examples can include doing something dangerous (such as entering the Forbidden Forest to help Rubeus Hagrid) or doing physical labour and other tasks without magic. A popular form of detention is making wrongdoers polish the school's many ornate candelabra.
Hekate had arrived early because she had literally nothing else to do, having even missed out on a meal because the food was making her ill. With a pool of silver hair covering her face, she nuzzled into the arms that rested on the desk and rested until detention started.
Val walked in, ad set her bag on the front desk. "Hi. Okay, so... I'm Valerie. I'm the Warden, and the librarian. If you need anything, I'll be right here. If not, sit and read." And with that, Val sat down herself, pulling out a book. "And don't try any tricks, miss Sayre."
She just lifted her head enough to glare at Valerie, her piercing blue eyes seething with annoyance that her name was brought up. Maybe she had grown accustomed to a life where no one knew you? "I don't have a book," she said simply.
"Do you want one?" She offered. "I brought a couple of Muggle books, and also some history books. You know, the one of the le Fey family is incredibly interesting.... If you don't want to read, on the other hand... What do you want to do?"
Since she didn't want to spend more time here than she needed to, Ana arrived right on time and sat down. Now was a good time as any to work on school work, so she decided to pull out her transfiguration book, and read.
