The Open-Ended Questions

A. Please answer the following questions as elaborately as possible. (Remember, this part doesn't have to be filled out if it's an expansion character!)

1) What would you consider to be your character's strengths, and your character's weaknesses? Elaborate on your answer.

Raphael's greatest strength would probably be his optimism. Others may argue that it can be a weakness, but really, his positive outlook in life literally allowed him to carry on (from his catastrophic tenure as an Auror serving in a foreign country, and even through his own divorce). Raphael always manages to find a way to look at things in a better light, and that can be considered a strength, in a world full of evil and impending chaos. Conversely, his greatest weakness would be that, in the effort to always look for the good in people, he often fails to see when he's being manipulated and taken advantage of. In this case, his natural kindness may actually have adversarial effects in his life.

2) Has your character's life played out the way they wanted? Have they achieved the goals they set out for their life? Why, or why not?

Other than the fact that he has one failed marriage, he wouldn't say that his life played out exactly the way he wanted. Although it is funny, because the reason why his relationship with his ex-wife was put into shambles was because he was trying to pursue something that would make him happy. So in a way, it kinda did play out the way he wanted, but not wholly, because of the consequences that he had to face.

3) What's their ideal way of spending a free day? Why so?

Most people would think that Raphael being placed in Gryffindor was a mistake, because he is a bookworm to the very core. On his free day, he'd probably read books and it doesn't matter which kind - fictional, academic, even activity books, he'd devour them all if he had the time.

4) If your character could only keep 5 possessions, what would they be? Why?

As with any wizard, Raphael has an attachment with his wand. Besides that, the other possessions he would keep would probably be his old and tattered copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard, passed down to him by his great-grandfather, an ancestral ring with his family's crest embedded on it which also serves as an heirloom, his favorite set of silky smooth casual robes brought from Paris, and an old Gameboy given to him by a Muggle friend which he plays with occasionally.

5) What one thing would your character change about the wizarding society? Why?

This answer might seem cliché, or even shallow, but as naturally light-hearted person, Raphael would want to see all traces of hate and discrimination disappear not just in wizarding society, but in the whole world in general. He saw how ugly war and conflict could be as a former Auror, and he really don't want anyone to face the horrors that can be brought about by deep-seated hate and prejudices.

The Character's Background

1) Give a history of your character. History must be at least two paragraphs long. How did they grow up? Is there an incident that made them the way they are? etc. (Remember, history must at least be two paragraphs long for the first two characters, three paragraphs long for the third to eighth character, and four paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth character!)

Raphael was born and raised in Manchester, England. He is from a wealthy pureblood family that is well-known in the Wizarding world - the Morgenthau family. Despite this status, the Morgenthaus are known for their association with and wealthy disposition towards Muggle-borns, and by extension, Muggles themselves, and would often rally and lobby for their rights in the Ministry of Magic. Growing up in this environment, Raphael became compassionate and light-hearted, with a flair for activism, and a knack for correctly identifying what was right from wrong. At a young age, he had already established a sense of righteousness, and this had greatly affected his attitude and personality as he slowly grew up.
At age 11, like most of his family, he was admitted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Gryffindor House. His life at school was very fruitful, and there, he met lifelong friends. He played Quidditch and was also made Prefect in his later years as a student. It was also there where he discovered his passion for duelling, and his love for his Defense Against the Dark Arts class - often devoting time into his "hobby" so that he could become better and better at wizarding combat. Because of this, he decided to work at the Ministry of Magic after graduation, and with his sense of righteousness coming into play, had applied to become an Auror.
During his tenure as an Auror, he was sent to the Middle East to deal with some illegal magical activity. During one of his run-ins with the people involved, he was greatly injured and was recommended to go back the United Kingdom. Staying positive and knowing that he could still fight, he remained on the field, and after recovering, had helped his co-Aurors in shutting down the illegal activity - which turned out to be a black market for exotic magical creatures. After this mission, he had decided to retire from the field and do office work instead. He met a co-worker in the Ministry, Adella Simpson, and they fell in love. They started dating and eventually got married after about three years.
Because they were still quite young, their marriage started becoming rocky two years in. Still instilled with the ideas that he could help the world, Raphael found a new interest in teaching, and was in fact, hired by Durmstrang to be one of their professors. Adella was not a fan of the idea, mainly because of the long distance thing, but Raphael insisted. And so, he went to Northern Europe, away from his wife who remained in Britain, and started teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts - his favorite subject back when he was still a student.
After a couple of years teaching at Durmstrang, Raphael was recognized by Castelobruxo and offered him a job as well. As a person with a natural inkling for travelling and adventure, and because of the better pay, Raphael accepted the post of Charms professor, and transferred to South America. This strained his marriage more, and he slowly found himself caring less and less about his wife, and more and more about his career. Adella felt neglected, which caused her to cheat with one of Raphael's close friends from the British Auror Force. One night, when Raphael had decided to go home for a long weekend and surprise Adella, he found her in bed with another man. Furious, he ended their marriage right then and there and immediately filed for divorce.
He took a leave of absence from Castelobruxo so he could collect his thoughts, and entered probably the darkest moment in his life. He started sleeping around England, with men and women, he didn't care. He wanted retribution; revenge for what his wife did to him. Only when he had reached his lowest point did he realize that he was also to blame. All those years caring about transforming the lives of those he teaches was traded for what he had with his wife - the first woman he ever truly loved. And so, like what he did when he was injured long ago, he started looking at things more positively, and slowly rebuilt himself as a person and let bygones be bygones.
He came back to Castelobruxo to teach for one more year before resigning and returning to the United Kingdom to spend some time with his family and finalize his divorce. Currently, he is planning to make a sort of homecoming and apply for a teaching post at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

2) Give a description of your character's personality. Personality must be at least one paragraph long. Are you noble or sneaky? Arrogant or humble? (Remember, personality must be at least one paragraph long for the first two characters, two paragraphs long for the third to eighth characters, and three paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth!)

Raphael is naturally kind and light-hearted. Having grown in a life full of splendor, one would expect him to be selfish and greedy - but that is just no who he is. He is righteous and has the ability to differentiate what is right from wrong, which really, not a lot of people have nowadays, and make good decisions based on them. He is annoyingly optimistic, and has a penchant to always look at the good in people, which admittedly, could also be a weakness. Despite this, Raphael remains to be a positive person, especially after what his positive thinking got him through - his divorce and a life-threatening injury, to be exact.
He is also friendly and cheerful, and actually quite easy to please. He appreciates the small things in life and could find genuine happiness from them, especially when he knows that he loves what he's doing. As a professor, he loves educating and transforming the lives of young people, like what his teachers did to him when he was still a student. He hopes that he could shape the character of the youth so that there could be a better future. It sounds cheesy, but hey, it's what he believes in, and it's actually true.
He rarely gets mad (keyword: rarely), and usually has a ton of patience that he uses to deal with the negative energy that he almost always runs into as a teacher, and formerly as an Auror. He is also very understanding, and compassionate to other people, except when he gets emotional and feels betrayed, like with what happened when his ex-wife had cheated on him. Despite this, Raphael is actually a very romantic person, and is good boyfriend material. He had learned from his mistakes about focusing so much on what he's doing, and vowed never to neglect his loved ones ever again. He is also bisexual.

3) Are you Pure-Blood, Half-Blood or Muggle-Born? Do you have any notable magical relations? (Remember, you cannot be related to important Harry Potter characters!)

Raphael is a pureblood wizard.

4) Does your character have any special magical abilities? Or special abilities in general (photographic memory, etc.)? Is he or she of a different magical race, such as Veela, Vampire, Werewolf or the like? Part or half of that magical race counts! (Remember, you cannot have one as your first two characters!)

He has none.

5) What is your character's profession? Does your character plan to enroll your character into the Ministry of Magic? Does your character not work? Is your character a teacher?

He is a former Auror, and former professor in Durmstrang and Castelobruxo. He currently has plans to make a grand homecoming and teach at Hogwarts.

6) Describe your character's marital status. Is your character single or married? What is the spouse's name? Any kids?

He is a divorced man and currently single. He has no children as of the moment, or that he knows of.

7) What about your character's appearance? What do they look like? Feel free to write down what they look like! If you're using any FC, you can put a picture here! Please state the character's faceclaim!

MoM Raphael Morgenthau has been registered as a citizen by the British Ministry of Magic!

"Upon the signature of the International Statute of Secrecy in 1689, wizards went into hiding for good. It was natural, perhaps, that they formed their own small communities within a community."
