The Open-Ended Questions

A. Please answer the following questions as elaborately as possible. (Remember, this part is only a requirement for your third to fifteenth character! However, if you want to have more input on where you character is sorted, then please answer #6!)

1) What would you consider to be your character's strengths, and your character's weaknesses? Elaborate on your answer.

His strength would be his integrity and independent nature. He's very precise and works hard at everything he does and what he puts his mind to. However, his weakness would be that he feels disconnected from the world around him and is often quite angry and bitter. He also tends to be a little bit arrogant at times, though this is usually a mask.

2) What goals and objectives has your character set out in their life? Is it to be successful and rich? Is it to find happiness? Why?

He wants to be a healer and wants to help people, though he'd like to specialise in the mental health area, or more specifically those dealing with grief. He doesn't want to be rich, he finds the money shallow if in excess.

3) What's their ideal way of spending a free day? Why so?

Going for a jog, or maybe beating up a boxing bag. He wouldn't mind a nap either.

4) If your character could only keep 5 possessions, what would they be? Why?

A burnt jumper. A picture of both his mum, Georgina and Wren. An old deck of cards that he was given when he was young, his ipod, and his wand.

5) What one thing would your character change about the wizarding society? Why?

Be better at enforcing the law and deconstruct gangs, specifically the serpents.

6) What house does your character want to be in? What house does your character not want to be in? Why?

The Character's Background

1) Give a description of your character's personality. Are you noble or sneaky? Arrogant or Humble? Anything about your character that might help the Sorting Hat decide. (Don't worry, you can copy this onto your character page later!) (Remember, personality must be at least one paragraph long for the first two characters, two paragraphs long for the third to eighth characters, and three paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth!)

Oscar, in simple terms, is closed off from the world around him. Withdrawn and hesitates to make connections with people, often avoiding conversation at all. However, inside, is a different story. Oscar isn't emotionally dead. He's angry, bitter, and is almost ready to snap. For this, you can often find Oscar trying to find some outlet. He usually reverts to working out or some sort of sport to expel any excess anger or energy. He also isn't quite sure how to handle his own emotions and tends to lash out when his buttons are pushed, though he also tends to shut down and cut off if he feels he's lost the fight. If someone asked him how he felt in one word, he'd often just say 'tired', though he tends to sleep a larger amount than most people.

However, Oscar is incredibly honest with himself and can often be quite sincere, not believing in lies and believe them to be of more harm than good. This side of him is actually quite open and displayed to most, though he rarely lets himself get too caught up in the relationship. Too most people, he is polite but cut off. Furthermore, Oscar is hard working and tries his hardest in everything he does and hates to back down from his word. If he gives someone a promise, he'll do anything in his power to fulfil it. Though he doesn't really care for rules, he doesn't go out of his way to break them, only when he believes they're unnecessary does he disregard them. Oscar does have a certain level of pride, however, and is irritated when someone looks down on him, preferring to be considered on equal footing with the people around him. He is incredibly caring, though, and would go out of his way to help a stranger or an enemy if they were desperate for his help, with his consciousness not letting him leave them in the dust.

Often, Oscar can be perceived as stiff and stubborn, which can often be true, but Oscar is willing to listen to the other people's reasoning. He never guarantees he will agree to their logic or beliefs. He can be very blunt, however, sometimes on purpose for the sake of being cruel or unkind, especially if he feels like a deer in headlights. However, Oscar isn't that ambitious and is quite flexible with his plans and ideas, except Oscar doesn't like to not be in charge and would rather take the lead, hating to feel powerless, to both the world and the people around him.

2) Write about the history of your character. How did they grow up? Is there an incident that made them the way they are? etc. (Again, you can copy this onto your character page later!) (Remember, history must at least be two paragraphs long for the first two characters, three paragraphs long for the third to eighth character, and four paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth character!)

Luca Fermanagh was a muggle who worked in the building industry, a mixture of brick laying and painting, and wasted most of his pay checks at the local bar. When he met Deanna, a witch who had left the wizarding world when she graduated from Hogwarts, wanting a new life, little changed. They had a short lived relationship, only four months, but Deanna wanted stability, not someone who rathered drink beer at a pub than actually get somewhere in life. So Deanna left him, virtually ghosting him. In her mind, she could do a whole lot better than an eighteen year old painter (not even a good one at that). However, three months later she realised there was a more serious consequence to her small fling. Oscar. A child. Deanna grew up in an old, pureblood family but she couldn't rely upon them. She had cut them off when she left due to not believing in their opinions and lifestyle. So she moved to London, getting the best she could manage, relying on her savings that were meant to be a last resort.

It was by chance he moved two houses down from another magical family that was passing off as muggles and it would be decades until Oscar would realise they were. His mother and the families mother, Georgina Berkhart, hit it off from the beginning and, since they were both pregnant at the same time, made each other the godparent to their respective child. Growing up, Oscar and Wren were frequently around each other and neither of them minded this as years passed by. As Deanna worked frequently, moving three jobs at the one time, Oscar was often left alone as he grew up but he he was loved. At school, he was popular, naturally, luckily in the same year with Wren. Oscar would have been happy with no friends, though, he was happy with just Wren. Naturally, it was over Wren that he had his first magical occurrence. The two of them were eight years old and Wren had...chosen a bad person to ask to have his first kiss with. It had to be a boy and the one in question was, in a simple word, homophobic. Oscar found Wren with a black eye and of course Oscar had to get back at him, for Wren's sake. Confronting the other boy, his own emotions bubbled up to cause the kid to fly backwards, into a tree. Afterwards, Oscar denied any involvement and that he hadn't touched the guy, which was true enough, but he was still suspended for it.

The next year was when everything shifted. Oscar had initially went over there as he usually did, hanging out with Wren after school, when he walked into the scene. He remembered a lot of blood covering the kitchen, the dead body. Georgina was beaten to death, later put on her husband, who turned out to be a gang member of the Serpents. The next few weeks were a blur to Oscar, a whirlwind of events that passed him by. All he knew was that Wren wasn't to be found. He remembers the morning Deanna woke him up, though, to tell him as gently as she could that they had found five mangled bodies that were decided to be Wren's and his family. A murder suicide was the term they placed onto it. The only thing Oscar was allowed to keep was the familiar jumper of Wren's that was found with the bodies (the officer was pretty inept and took pity on him as he kept on asking for it and a teddy bear). It wasn't long until Deanna decided they needed a change of scenery. They were living down the road from the Berkhart's house, the memories were becoming too much for Oscar, who had developed nightmares and panic attacks. There were days Deanna couldn't stop Oscar from crying, no matter what she did. So she moved themselves to America, Houston to be specific.

It wasn't long until he was sent to Ilvermorny and sorted into Pukwudgie. For the next four years, he was somewhat happy there. His mother was initially hesitant in sending Oscar to the wizarding world but, for the first time in a year, Oscar was excited so who was she to rip him away from that? In school, Oscar made a few friends but found himself emotionally distant from them, never making a connection with them that he had with Wren. By this time, Oscar was trying to forget about his childhood friend and could barely say his name. However, he began to develop a need to help people, heal people and began to study to be a healer, though he found his grades always slipping no matter how hard he studied. He had back up plans, of course, he was actually pretty good at the American version of quidditch and was considered to have the potential to go pro. However, it changed at the end of his fifth year.

Deanna lost her job and had begun to go back in contact with her own parents and siblings. Struggling to find a new one in Houston, she decided it was time to return home. Plus, she found America too modern, she preferred traditional England. Thus, she transferred Oscar to Hogwarts during the summer between his fifth and sixth year. Oscar wasn't too troubled by this. He was going to live in the Wizarding world, no where near his old neighbourhood, and he hadn't made too many close connections in America.
