The Character's Background

1) Give a description of your character's personality. Are you noble or sneaky? Arrogant or Humble? Anything about your character that might help the Sorting Hat decide. (Don't worry, you can copy this onto your character page later!) (Remember, personality must be at least one paragraph long for the first two characters, two paragraphs long for the third to eighth characters, and three paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth!)

Lyra Vasilieva was once a very intelligent girl with an aptitude for knowledge and a passion for acrobatics. After her accident in which she suffered memory loss from a traumatic brain injury, she has never been the same since. Despite some glimmers of the once charismatic young girl, the healers essentially believe that she will never recovery her entire memory. Coping with this vision and cookie-cutter expectation of who she should be has been rather stressful on Lyra and often leads her to random moments of uncontrollable sadness. Other times, she just wants to explore and discover all of the new things she has never experienced.

She has an almost infant aspect on the world and usually doesn't understand things like technology, often mentally younger than she actually is. Despite her inability to be socially normal, she often dismisses things like personal space, time management and a social cues. Sarcasm is a confusing conceot that often leaves her baffled or quiet and she takes a special interest in any book she can get her hands on.

Her thirst for knowledge often combats her lack of education and street smarts but Lyra understands that emotions exist and predominantly control everyone but often doesn't always know how to react to situations. She can be described as a lost puppy with frequent head tilts and bursts of energy. Not to mention how hyperactive she becomes with the aid of sugar.

2) Write about the history of your character. How did they grow up? Is there an incident that made them the way they are? etc. (Again, you can copy this onto your character page later!) (Remember, history must at least be two paragraphs long for the first two characters, three paragraphs long for the third to eighth character, and four paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth character!)

Lyra Vasilieva was born in Moscow, Russia to Serafima and Ilya Vasiliev and was designated the future heir to the Vasiliev fortune. The couple had married nearly two years earlier as part of an assigned marriage by both their parents. Serafima had always been significantly younger than Ilya but she was only sixteen years old when she married him. Lyra was born two years after they married when Serafima was only eighteen years old. The arranged marriage sprung a weird outcome and the couple were finally happy with the start of their little family. Eventually, they fell into love as they raised their daughter.

When Lyra was five years old, they tried again for another baby to no avail. The doctors discovered a plethora of cysts on her ovaries which resulted in low fertility rates. Devastated by the news, she spent all her energy to continue making her only child happy and loved rather than shutting down completely. Ilya came up with a crazy idea to invest all their money into a travelling carnival so they could see the world and bring laughter and happiness to other people as well. Then the idea of circus acts and acrobatics came into play thanks to Lyra’s special fondness in a book about a circus.

When Lyra was ten years old, her entire family bought and improved a travelling carnival that would visit every wizarding community in Europe. Their first goal was to make it big in Russia. Ilya hired a fire-breathing acrobat to train his daughter and thus sparked a passion and love for acrobatics that Lyra excelled quickly. When she turned eight years old, her first signs of magic showed while she was practicing. Instead of letting the moment embarrass her, she and her trainer incorporated it into her gig and Lyra rose quickly to stardom with the help of her impressive water and ice magic to counter her mentor’s fire.

The Vasiliev Carnival grew to be famous in Russia with many wizardkind lining up to get their hands on tickets and with it, so did the ego of Lyra’s father. He took up drinking in his spare time and developed and addiction. This result in many hushed but ever-present angry whispers from behind closed doors. Lyra was eleven years old when she attempted to challenge herself to a very rigorous and intense routine. Everything was going well up until her drunken father burst in with a redheaded trapeze artist in his arms. Having been distracted, Lyra fell from her perch and landed directly on her head and suffered a traumatic brain injury that resulted in a coma. Ilya felt guilty about Lyra’s accident and eventually told Serafima what had happened that night. Enraged, she fled from Russia with Lyra to visit some family in London that were willing to help her financially.

The carnival went bankrupt with the neglect that ensued, Lyra ultimately losing all of her fortune and inheritance as her father attempted to gamble it away to make more money to support the carnival. Serafima took Lyra to Mungo’s for treatment during the duration of her year-long coma. The healers were surprised when Lyra woke, but ultimately in agreement that her memory had been permanently altered and she remembered very little of her childhood and her parents. The hardest part was spending those months relearning how to speak Russia and write as well as the addition of English language. On her thirteenth birthday, she was granted the ability to leave the psych ward whenever she pleased as long as she was back by curfew. Most of the last few months have just been monitoring to make sure that Lyra was ready to go back into the wizarding world and even stable enough to attend school. Thanks to rigorous jamming and homeschooling, she was granted permission to attend Hogwarts for her fourth year in which she no longer had to be a resident at the psych ward.

Lyra still struggles with everyday life and often times has little to no knowledge involving electronics and other random objects. With her addition low attention span and inability to remember dates, names and places, Lyra has not performed acrobatics since her accident. Ilya has also recently been trying to send her letters but for the most part, Serafima either hides them or Lyra ignores them. She would much prefer to read a book and has been relearning most things very quickly. The healers suggest her memory may come back, but unsure of to what extent and whether it will come back fully. In the meantime, she excitedly waits to be released from Mungo’s to attend Hogwarts and live like a normal teenager.

3) Write about your character's appearance. What do they look like? Are you planning on using a certain model for your character? If you already have a picture in mind, you can put it here!

Lyra
Portrayed by Dove Cameron

4) Is your character a Pure-Blood, Half-Blood or Muggle-Born? Do you have any notable magical relations? (Remember, you cannot be related to important Harry Potter characters!)

Pure-Blood

5) Does your character have any special magical abilities? Or special abilities in general (photographic memory, etc.)? Is he or she of a different magical race, such as Veela, Vampire, Werewolf or the like? Part or half of that magical race counts! (Remember, you cannot have a character with special abilities/of a different magical race as one of your first two characters!)

Nope

6) What year is your character in?

Will be in fourth year in the upcoming school year.
