The Open-Ended Questions

A. Please answer the following questions as elaborately as possible. (Remember, this part is only a requirement for your third to fifteenth character! However, if you want to have more input on where you character is sorted, then please answer #6!)

1) What would you consider to be your character's strengths, and your character's weaknesses? Elaborate on your answer.

  • Lærke's thirst for freedom is likely her biggest weakness. It's not a persona a princess should have, not with what she knows. It makes her vulnerable and open to influence from just about anyone, which isn't helped by the fact that she has little knowledge of how any place other than Denmark and the small community within Beauxbatons work.
  • Lærke, however, does have the poise of a princess. There's certain aspects that, while they aren't anything major, they'll be helpful throughout her time outside palace walls. She's calculative, she's strong, she's independent, she's f*cking brilliant, thank you very much.

2) What goals and objectives has your character set out in their life? Is it to be successful and rich? Is it to find happiness? Why?

  • Since she knows the likelihood of rising to the throne are minimal, she just wants to live out the rest of her life like a normal person. She wants to be able to fall in love with whoever she wants, she wants to go to parties, she wants to sneak out, break rules, just do everything she isn't allowed to do as a princess.

3) What's their ideal way of spending a free day? Why so?

  • Her ideal way of spending a free day would be without maids, butlers or security detail fussing over her and her sister. It'd be just her, her sister, Katja and her best friend doing wandering, exploring and just doing what normal teenagers do. She hates being cooped up in the castle.

4) If your character could only keep 5 possessions, what would they be? Why?

  • To be truthful, there aren't many objects of value to Lærke, that she'd keep with her forever. There's only two things.
    • Her tiara, since it's a display of the power that, while she often dislikes it, has proven to be very useful at times on end, especially as a means to get stuff she may need/want.
    • Her wand, solely because it's the one thing that keeps her parents from chaining her to the palace walls and keeping her there until she turns of age.

5) What one thing would your character change about the wizarding society? Why?

  • She wouldn't change anything... not until she knows more about how everything works, you know? She's still new to this, despite her four years at Beauxbatons.

6) What house does your character want to be in? What house does your character not want to be in? Why?

  • IC? She doesn't care. OOC? I sort of want her in Slytherin, for character development reasons. Please, not Gryffindor. xD I've got enough of those as is.

The Character's Background

1) Give a description of your character's personality. Are you noble or sneaky? Arrogant or Humble? Anything about your character that might help the Sorting Hat decide. (Don't worry, you can copy this onto your character page later!) (Remember, personality must be at least one paragraph long for the first two characters, two paragraphs long for the third to eighth characters, and three paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth!)

Born and raised a princess, Lærke once was of the most well-mannered people you'll ever meet. She still fits the standard of a princess, though, not counting the good girl persona, since she's got a big heart full of compassion. She's trustworthy and loyal even today, though it extends to friends and family before it does to her own people, given it's under the right circumstances. She was raised a thoughtful, humble, friendly young girl, traits that she has kept throughout the years.

She's charismatic, a key trait every royal before her has possessed. It's what makes her a natural at it, supposedly. You know, aside from her leadership qualities, but that's a different matter. She has great social skills, as evidenced by how easy it is for her to make friends. She's a little reluctant to make friends, but you do have to understand that she's a royal and it's not easy for her to trust people easily, but she does have her fun without getting attached.

Lærke can be a downright bitch if a situation calls for it, though. She can be the most passive aggressive person you'll ever meet, it's something she picked up during her time at Beauxbatons. Being for four years with a bunch of girls who were thirsty for attention and were willing to do anything to catch the eye of a royal, Lærke knows how to make people back off. She isn't someone you should lash out at, or try anything against - trust me, it'll come around to bite you in the ass eventually. She knows she should be careful with what she does and how she does it, but she isn't afraid to fight back if someone provokes her.

The word reputation has always been drilled into her, ever since she was able to understand what it meant, which is why she was so obedient for so long. Yeah, the good old days when she was the golden child. She knows now, though, it's her older brother Jørgen. It always will be. He'll become King after their father. He isn't magic. He didn't cause a rift between their parents. It's annoying, but she's grown used to it and even let go her strict, good girl mannerisms. Now that she knows who she could be, not counting her bloodline, she doesn't want to let that go. Reputation? It can go f*ck itself now. She doesn't have to maintain a good girl persona anymore, does she? She isn't in Denmark anymore, she can easily do what she wants without word getting to her Kingdom - she's got the connections and the influence.

A couple of years ago, Lærke would have laughed if you told her she'd stop caring about her status. But now? Now that she's gotten a semi-permanent taste of freedom? She wants to explore all of it. She wants to go out, make friends, throw parties. This is her second chance, a new beginning. She wants to make the most of it. She wouldn't be against finding someone to have fun with along the way, either, but she really wants to just lose herself, forget her importance in Denmark, forget all her responsibilities, be a teen and have fun, y'know?

2) Write about the history of your character. How did they grow up? Is there an incident that made them the way they are? etc. (Again, you can copy this onto your character page later!) (Remember, history must at least be two paragraphs long for the first two characters, three paragraphs long for the third to eighth character, and four paragraphs long for the ninth to fifteenth character!)

The Amalienborg Palace was the only home Lærke Svanhild Emmelie Tømmeraas ever knew, until she was eleven years old. She never got around to meeting any family in that time, at least not from her mother's side, given how simple their life was, compared to the elegance of her father's royal family. She wonders how different her life would be, if she'd been allowed to grow up with the Greenes. She actually overheard once from her mother about the disappearance of one of her cousins, of the death of her aunt, but she'd never been one to ask about it. That was the thing that probably kept her stuck in the palace for so long. Lærke had always been oh-so obedient, she'd never given a reason for her parents to be disappointed. She was, so to say, the golden child. To disappoint her family would be to disappoint her country. To disappoint her country would be to fail herself, and that was one thing Lærke never allowed to happen.

Svanhild and Jørgen had always been caring parents. Danish citizens knew their royal family was a very united one, but they didn't know the extent of it. Jørgen Tømmeraas the Second was the kind of man that dropped everything to be with his kids, if the time and situation called for it. Svanhild was the exact same. Their priorities were their children, that much was obvious. From their oldest and only son Jørgen (the third), all the way to their youngest daughter Marina, none of them ever lacked any love, even though their parents did falter at some point after the twins turned seven.

Jørgen turned out to have no magical blood, much to the secret relief of Svanhild, who'd kept her status of squib a secret from the unknowing Crown Prince. However, Lærke did present signs of magic relatively early on, when she was just seven, but it wasn't something all that noticeable. It was flu season, and logically, she just had to get it. She was riddled with it in her bed, missing the annual winter ball her family held for the citizens of Denmark. She'd attended it ever since she was a baby, she couldn't possibly miss it now. She was frustrated and upset, and it bubbled inside of her until it manifested in the form of medicine. Lærke literally healed herself. While her parents were skeptical (more so her father than her mother, who was batshit scared), Lærke was able to attend the all.

More signs of magic followed that first one. They were never big enough to garner her father's attention, but they did catch her mother's. It scared the woman. The fact that her daughter (and most likely her other one, too) could cause the secret she'd guarded so well to spill, seriously got to her. She knew she had to do something about it, so she began to try and distance her husband from her daughters, whether it be by asking for more private time with either, by signing both her daughters up for activities within the walls of the palace, etc. She even tried to get Jørgen (the Second) to consider sending them to a boarding school, which is where he drew the line. That's when he confronted her, but Svanhild was evasive. These events... they marked the start of the deterioration of their marriage.

Crown Prince Jørgen got his answers when a representative from Durmstrang and Beauxbatons came to him. He was perplexed, honestly, and skeptical, because how could magic exist in his Kingdom without him knowing it? Turns out Lærke's grandfather knew, that sly dog. As King, it sort of was his duty to know all about Denmark, including the magical society that was rooted in the Wilderness, tucked away from every other no-maj's eyes. Thus, the job to inform his son and granddaughters of their magical heritage fell on him. He did so, over lunch, right before a meeting with the Minister, in the presence of both school representatives.

Though his credibility was questioned to some extent, it was the King - it was nobody's right to question him, at least outside Parliament. It was easy to believe him, especially with the proof and evidence he provided to his direct descendants. Meetings were coordinated, visits were scheduled, and the magical and non-magical communities' ties suddenly strengthened. The reality of Lærke and Marina having magic was settling, and it was settling fast. She'd soon be off to magic. The time that was supposed to have been spent taking classes on royal etiquette and all was suddenly split, to fit in her new lessons on the magical society. She was the princess, one who could eventually become Queen, if her older brother didn't prove to be fit, or opted out, or died. If she was going to govern both communities, she'd better begin to learn beforehand.

It was, as a matter of fact, relatively easy for Lærke to catch on to everything she was taught. While she didn't learn magic hands-on due to laws preventing it, she did learn of the history behind the world of magic, its wars and its most influencing people. She was taught about Dumbledore, Grindelwald, Voldemort, Harry Potter, the key figures throughout the histories. She was taught about the schools of magic that existed and how each government worked. It was boring, you know, learning all of that but not learning any actual magic. The closest thing to magic she got was learning how to control it, manipulate it so it wouldn't show publicly. She mastered how to control her emotions, thus mastering her control over her bursts of magic.

Lærke and Marina were set to attend Durmstrang, the former sooner than the latter, a special exception to the blood status rule, as princesses of Denmark. It was located in Scandinavia and it was easy for her to return to the Castle, should need be. She was accessible by the royal family of Denmark. However, news of its dark origins came to light. The Highmaster himself was known to dabble in the dark arts. While there was some comfort in knowing that the school was relatively safe for the two of them, it wasn't an environment princesses should be at, much less ones who could potentially sit on the throne. Svanhild and Jørgen then began to look into the rest of the schools, this time being more thorough in their research. They personally visited the schools, which was useful because the time to make a decision was fast approaching, as Lærke had to be sent to a school of magic.

Ultimately, Lærke sent to Beauxbatons, with her twin to be sent the year that followed. It was the other school closest to Denmark, not to mention it truly was worthy of princesses. From the type of education, to the teachers, to the student body, it was the perfect school for them both. Thus, Lærke was sent on the Carriage to Beauxbatons Academy for Magic. Shortly after their arrival was the Sorting Ceremony. The arrow Lærke shot, when her time came, turned purple. She'd been sorted into Papillionlisse. It was in that house that she met Katja, who was also in her year. The two became friends quite quickly, which was surprising, since the princess had been reluctant to make friends due to how people may treat her because of her status. But it happened. She doesn't regret it.

They're still friends to this day. From Lærke's young days there, when she was an innocent little girl, all the way to today, as a rebelling teenager trying to be normal. They've stuck together through it all, which is why it was such a shame when Katja announced at the end of fourth year that she was going to be transferred to Hogwarts. By then, Lærke had already been feeling intensely about not living a normal life. Not having freedom to do what she desired. Not being able to throw parties or even go to parties in the summer, with her friends. So she talked with her sister, and then with her parents. She wanted to move to Britain, to attend Hogwarts, too.

Her parents weren't pleased at first, to say the least. Then again, their marriage hadn't been in such a good spot, which... was the fault of the twins and their magic, not that they'd told the twins. Originally, they gave a resounding no. The girls were princesses, they belonged in a school known for its elegance and positive reviews. However, Lærke and her persuasive words were able to slowly change her mother's mind, which helped in convincing her father. It started out with pointing out how she'd be close to her maternal family, how she could finally meet them and live with them. That was a huge blow in her mother's defenses. But it was still a no. Little by little, Lærke pointed more and more things out, until Svanhild finally agreed to it; however, security detail, maids and butlers had to go, and the girls had to return for at least the vast majority of summer. Lærke suspects her grandfather weighted in on her mother's change of mind, thinking back to how he'd winked at her, but it hadn't occurred to her until she got to Britain.

The fact that she'd have her servants and security detail honestly didn't make Lærke feel like she'd feel any more normal, but for the sake of gaining a little but more of freedom, she decided hey, maybe it was worth it.
