Drew’s story is an up and down roller coaster, unfortunately not sung by exid. His life starts with an unfaithful married man, and a breaking family. The Moon family dynasty was crumbling, but Drew’s own family was beginning. Like fire, loving his mother was dangerous, but that danger is what made her so appealing to the head of the Moon family. In his stale, dastardly life, he had fallen in love and tried to be the best he could, but things weren’t working out so he needed to escape. Parallely, he needed money to maintain the Moon family, leading him to be in debt to a local mafia. Playing with fire must have been a family trait, because while his daughter messed with real fire, the moon family head played with a metaphorical one, getting close to she who made the monetary transactions, the daughter of the mafia head.
Money got tighter and tighter, and the un-god father suffered from soul crushing depression. One thing led to another, and he ended up sleeping with the mafia leader’s daughter. Maybe he would’ve stayed in that situation if he had used...protection, but due to lack there of, the mafia leader’s daughter became pregnant. Young and fierce, she refused to give up the child, but also refused to subject the baby to the mafia life she had lived in. In the shadows of the night, she came to an agreement with her father. He would help her escape to America to seek a new life and provide money, but once she was gone, she could never come back or contact him again. In turn, he would do whatever necessary to hide her absence from his mafia, and his enemies.
One year later, she’s gone, assumed to have been murdered. A false body showed up, and the mafia head claimed it’s the work of the man who impregnated her, the man who couldn’t risk the chance of having physical ties to the mafia, and obvious proof of adultery. The head struck swiftly, dealing with the matter internally, without police interference. To anyone else, he had disappeared, a victim of poverty and shady credit. In truth, he had become a personal slave to the head, to pay off his unending debt with his blood sweat and tears.
In America, A new mother lived well in the city of dreams, raising her tiny baby son in a small apartment in the meatpacking district. Unfortunately, the money isn’t enough, and eventually the family of two have to move to a home in nearby Queens. While Drew has a korean name, he goes by his american one as it’s easier to pronounce, and he’s your typical all american kid. He did little league, played soccer, and had a few friends in the neighborhood. No one would have thought twice about his background, and nearly ethnic mafia blood.
Drew was about six years old when his mother’s past came to haunt them. In Korea, rumor spread that the mafia head’s daughter lived. Men eager to gain control and in need of blackmail set up teams to find her in secret. Finally, one team tracked her down in New York. Drew was getting home from preschool, only to find his mother struggling against five men dragging her into a van. The person who had carpooled him called the police, but meanwhile, nothing could be done for his mother. That’s when the ground started rumbling. Although they didn’t know it, they were resting atop a sinkhole. All it took was a push of magic from Drew. The front of the van fell in, then the rest tipped over. His mother found the perfect moment to escape and ran, barely missing the expanding sinkhole. After that day, his mother realized sinkholes couldn’t protect them forever. No matter what she wanted, her past would haunt them.
She got cozy to the classiest version of a gangster there was; a politician. They moved in city with her congressmen boyfriend, who later became her husband. His money, twisted by love for her, set them up with more protection than she could have asked for, especially after he became a senator. Despite enjoying a peaceful childhood after, Drew never forgot the day his mother was almost kidnapped, and he noticed the amounting secrets around him.
Eventually Drew was sent off to Ilvermorny, where he was a decent student, but lacked something. Of all the secrets he wanted to know, he wanted to know about his dad the most. Eventually, his want to understand and know himself and his past led him to run away from Ilvermorny, off to do his own research. To stop him from potentially hurting himself, his mother contacted him and offered a trade deal, to know more about his past.
Drew flew home, where his mother told him about his father dying when he was 9 in Korea, and how he was entangled with bad people. After begging for the man’s name, his mother obliged, even mentioning the man had children, who were his siblings. This ate at him all night, and by morning, he decided to halt his education to find his family, something he could consider due to his privileged life. His mother was against this, so she struck up another deal. If he finished the semester of school, when he came home they would locate his family together.
Fifth year went smoothly, and over the summer, Drew researched and searched for his siblings. With some unusually insightful tips from his mom, who he didn’t know had spies in her father’s former mafia, he was able to locate a sister named Kress. He attempted to send her a friend request and a message saying he was her long lost brother, and asking if her location (the UK), was still intact. She misunderstood, thinking him a scammer, and blocked him.
“You can bring a man to water, but if he doesn’t drink, put an iv in him.” The newly spun phrase did not impress his mother, but Drew did manage to convince her to let him fly to the UK himself to find her and live with her. On the condition, he still attended school.
Thus it was that Drew took a flight to England, landed in London, realized he did not know where his sister lived, and sat down and fetal positioned himself out of stress for an hour on the street. After a while, he remembered a name for one of his sisters facebook friends, named Gino. The man had his phone number on his page so he called and explained how he was related to Kress and came to see her. That is about when Gino broke the news that they were in Korea. Drew spent some more time in fetal position before asking Gino to stay in his house.
It was the worst idea he’d had, to follow Gino’s directions. Somehow, he led him into Scotland and back, into Diagon Alley, and eventually into Hogsmeade. Drew had never trekked so much in his life, nor learned about survival. It was the most harrowing journey he had ever taken. By that time, it was almost time for school, so after finding work in Hogsmeade and living at the Hog’s Head, he traveled to Hogwarts to start his school year. Gino has stopped communicating with him, but hopefully one of his owls will convince Kress to believe him.
