Hello, how are you? I'm glad you chose to come here to purchase your faithful friend.
We have many kinds of animals here. There is a list of some of the breeds we carry below.
If I don't mention a breed you would like, feel free to ask, with the name of the breed and I will let you know if our backroom holds such, or if it needs to be flown in specially.
Please choose a breed and gender of your desired pet. I will fetch your pet for you and you may then take your new friend home! We also offer cages for your owl, and you can see them in the catalogue below.
She was standing at the corner of the store, her teeth biting on the tip of her tongue as she sorted through her money before sighing. She wanted to buy an owl but was a few galleons short. That's okay, she was also looking at the cats and lemurs so it wasn't too big of a loss. Sure, she'd have to rely on the local owls to get ahold of her mum, but that's okay too.
The owl emporium was a usual stop for Dakota throughout each week, always wanting to come in and see if he had saved up enough money from chores to buy anything. Unfortunately, Dakota never did. Especially because he hadn't yet grasped the concept of different currencies between the muggle and magical world and thought pounds would do. Oh the joys of being a muggle-born in a wizards world.
She was once in a similar situation to Dakota, having just got use to British currency before she was thrusted into the magical world, but she had painstakingly put herself through the explanations and comparisons that she had a good handle for it. Somewhat. She could get herself around well enough. Eventually, she slid her coins into a small pouch, however half of them spilled out onto the floor and she made a muffled sort of squeak sound to display her frustration.
Dakota actually wasn't too far away from Cleo when she dropped all her coins. Having made his rounds around the store and now being about a meter or two away from her. Seeing the girl's frustration as the coins fell, Dakota hurried over to help her. "Let me help you with those." He said, kneeling over to grab some.
With multiple coins in his hand, and Cleo getting the rest, Dakota looked up at the girl with a smile. "No worries, can't lose all your money when you're looking into purchasing an owl~" He said with a bit of a laugh before dropping the coins in the pouch.
She hesitated before hesitantly smiling. "I think I'm going to buying a lemur...or maybe a cat," she confessed, "I...I think an owl would be too much for me," she said with a small smile, trying to appear confident and aloof.
Despite how many times Dakota had been to this shop, he was still surprised they carried lemurs. What more should he have expected though from wizards? "A lemur seems like a good option to be honest, I was considering it too but-" he said as he pulled his muggle money out of his pocket. "Everywhere I go they don't accept my money..."
"Oh," she said, her eyes landing on the money and her mouth formed a small 'o', "you need to convert it over at Gringotts, they have different currency here. Galleons, knuts and sickles. 29 knuts make up one sickle, and there are 17 Sickles in a galleon," she recited, almost as if singing a song. "Are you...are you new as well?"
As Cleo explained the concept of the currency used for wizards, Dakota's face showed obvious confusion. All the names they had for their currency were things he knew in the muggle world, but it wouldn't make sense for a weapon such as a sickle to be used as money... would it? "That's all... very confusing." He said while rubbing the back of his neck nervously. "Is it that obvious?"
"No," she said with a shake of her head. Of course, she didn't want to confess to it but she kept on confusing the coins with each other. Asked for a sickle? She gave them a Knut. "I don't know. I guess it will become obvious in time, I don't know."
Dakota let out a sigh of relief, "I feel like I'm doomed come Hogwarts... Everyone's going to know right away that I have no clue what I'm doing or why I'm even invited there." He paused for a second, looking around the store. "That's why I come here a lot, I'm always walking by trying to learn stuff then I get distracted by animals."
"You think? I didn't think being a muggle who was born with such powers was common... You're the only other one I've met thus far," he paused as he somewhat laughed at Cleo's words. "I couldn't help myself, I saw animals and got distracted."
"Yeah, I've heard we aren't necessarily the most... welcome by most people." Dakota responded before nodding his head, "They really are. It's kind of bad news for me you let me know about the currency changes cause now I'm even more tempted to buy something, or everything."
