Dungeon Corridor

250px-DungeonCorridor

The Dungeon Corridor is a long, gloomy stone passageway that leads from the narrow spiral staircase coming down from the Viaduct Entrance to the staircase leading down to the blank stone wall which is the entrance to the Slytherin Dungeon. The Potions Classroom can be found along this corridor. The Slytherin Corridors are probably adjacent to this corridor.

Callum was walking down the hall with his nose buried in his DAtDA text book, trying to figure out why his patronus wasn’t working correctly. He was paying no mind to the others around him, and because of his prefect badge a lot of people avoided him anyways.

It wasn't like him to forget his things, but today didn't seem to be his day. He forgot a lot of important things, mostly things he had needed for class, somethings he had gotten in trouble for and maybe that's why he was rushing through the halls and bumping into people and getting the pissed person cursing, not literally, him. Maybe that's also how he ended up walking, more like running, into someone and toppling backwards.

β€œOof!” Callum stumbled back and fell onto the floor when he felt Silas bump into him rather hard, making Callum groan a little and run his butt after the impact. β€œDude, what the hell?” He asked and looked up, not expecting to see Silas since most people usually run away. β€œYou could have killed me,”

"Sorry." He didn't seem to care that the male happened to be a prefect, after all the title was a little over the top even for himself. "Are you okay?" He spoke as soon as he got up, holding a hand out to the younger boy.

"Y-Yeah, I should be fine. I don't think I broke anything," He said as he took Silas' hand and got up, dusting off his robes. "What about you? I hope you didn't get impaled or anything by my book,"

"That's good then." His lips quirked up into a small smile, one that emitted some form of kindness as he helped the younger boy up. "No, I'm fine your book, I'm sure, is probably okay too. Sorry for running into you, I kind of don't know where I am. I'm Silas Jo by the way."

"Ah, you must have taken a wrong turn somewhere then. It's very easy to get lost in Hogwarts," He said, bending down to grab his book and blow off anything that got on it. "I'm Callum Dane, Ravenclaw Prefect, nice to meet you Silas. Are you a transfer student or..?"

"Yeah, I seem to take a lot of those one way or another." He chuckled, his deep accented voice sounding softer than it normally would in any sitution. "It's a pleasure to meet you Callum and yes, I did transfere in this year. I was in Mahoutokoro before, the wizarding school in Japan."

Tegen and Jasper

Tegen wasn't one for exploring the castle. Why should she? It took time away from doing more productive things. Still, given it was the first week back and everything seemed to be recaps (something she didn't have to worry about) she took the time to look about instead of doing her homework. The dungeon corridor, though one she had used many a time, was an obvious starting choice and she had a little look around, totally oblivious to anyone that could be near her.

Jasper sat on one of the old wooden benches that lined the halls of the school, with a book in his lap and tattered parchment spread out on it like a makeshift table. He appeared to be writing a letter to someone important because the furrow of his brow and concentration invested left him staring at one word for nearly five minutes. Sighing, he slid the half-done letter onto the bench beside him and tossed a glance in Tegen's direction.

Moving closer to Jasper's direction, Tegen was still far more interested in the walls and the subtle things she never noticed like the makeshift repairs in the bricks' cracks. She laid her eyes then on the desks, figuring they would be out of use like they usually were and, naturally, she had to stop herself from screaming in shock when she saw one of them occupied and having said occupant staring at her. Noticing his robes and discerning he was of Ravenclaw belonging, she tilted her head. "Seems like a weird place to do writing or whatever," She said curtly, nodding down at his sheet of paper, "Isn't the library a more... fitting place for a Ravenclaw such as yourself?"

His eyes flicked down to his lap when she got closer, half hoping she wouldn't note that he was looking at her. He stretched out slightly, his arms moving above his head as he peered up at her. "I actually prefer swimming and tarot cards over books," he replied with a grin and moved over slightly in case she wanted to sit; it was just the mannerly thing to do. Jas carefully gathered up the book and paper and set it back onto his lap, frowning down at the half-empty page.

Tegen lent against a column, ignoring and refusing his offer at a place to sit at the desk. She had no plans nor intentions on staying so the cold infrastructure would do. "Sounds like a Gryffindor," she said after a moment's pause, "Sounds like the Sorting Hat had a wonderful time with you." There was a smile on her face, one that radiated malice but, overall, seemed subdued and oddly calm. "Besides, there's no water or tarot cards here, so it still makes your eagle-patriot self out of place."

He rolled his shoulders with a low chuckle, not at all bothered by Tegen. If anything, he was just grateful someone was talking to him. It's like there was a giant sign taped to his back that warned to stay away. He wasn't even that scary. Crossing his arms over his chest, he shot her a sidelong glance and grin. "I don't mind being the one exception to stereotypes."

Though comforted by his chuckle - it meant she hadn't messed up the social interaction just yet - Tegen was struck with what he said about being an exception to a stereotype - the same thing she arguably was for her family. The difference? She had come to hate it. Moving from the column, she walked a little closer to him, stopping about an arm's length or so out. "You don't?" She asked, eyes narrowing slightly, trying to decipher what he meant, "Isn't that... cumbersome? Tiresome? Make you feel like you don't belong?" She paused, "How?"

Jasper slipped the paper into the book and set it beneath the bench before leaning back again. This time, he placed his arm along the back of the seat, peering up at her with both amusement and confusion. "Not at all. I feel unique and original. I hate fitting into a cookie-cutter mold and milling with the rest of the sheep. I want my life to mean something other than books and knowledge."

"Sounds poetic," She commented drily, the smile on her lips thinning slightly, "And not realistic. Everyone has a mould to fit." She paused, looking down slightly, "As harsh as it may be." She shook her head lightly and smiled again, "Books and knowledge... ironic, considering that's school and a Ravenclaw - an association you'll have for life."

"No, they're just labels used to put us all in our places and stifle the fire that both of us have. I can tell you don't want to fit a mold either but you feel its your duty," he said, the spirtualness originating from his love for tea readings and tarot cards. "You don't need to listen to anyone but yourself. I'm happy with who I am, even if it means I'm a weird Ravenclaw."

"Hm." Tegen said simply, analysing Jasper up and down, just to make sure he wasn't messing with her. "I didn't think Ravenclaws would like Divination and all that," She said with a tilt of her head, "Guess you really do 'break the mould' or whatever." She shrugged, laughing a little to herself, "Happiness within yourself is overrated - too wishy-washy."

"Happiness gives hope," he said and cocked his head to the other side, like Tegen was a whole new breed of human he didn't quite uderstand yet. "Maybe you should try breaking out of stereotype and habit. See what it's like. Hell, maybe you'll even enjoy yourself."

"Adore me, really. I braid their hair and everything," he said with a chuckle. He actually did know how to braid thanks to his little sister, Jasmine. "I guess I must be feeling some fake version of happiness," he said with a furrowed brow but couldn't help but grin at her anyway. She definitely was amusing.

"Oh cute, anytime I need my hair braided I'll go to you Mr. Mouldbreaking Ravenclaw," she said, returning his smile and chuckle. Now enjoying the conversation she moved to sit opposite him, resting her elbows on the table as she looked at him. "Perhaps - there is something great about getting whatever you want when you want it..." She trailed off for a second before shrugging, "Then again, that might just be my rich kid side talking or whatever the poorer people call it."

"Is it nice to get whatever you want or do you ever just end up wishing for more? They say materialistic things don't bring you happiness.

Jasper very visibly winced at her blatant descrimination but nodded his head, "they are." He yawned but stifled it with a spare hand, his curious gaze fixing on her once again. "I dunno'. Poor people are just naturally humble. Rich have a disregard for everyone and everything."

"Humbility isn't anything natural," She began, looking him up and down to discern if he was serious or not, "People make the conscious decision to be humble... right?" She never was one to doubt herself, but she figured Jasper was serious in what he was saying - the wince having given him away. "Not all rich people disregard everyone." She paused, a small smile playing at her lips, "If that's the case I wouldn't be engaging in a conversation, right?"

Jasper expelled a lighthearted chuckle and almost leaned toward her, his eyes glistening with amusement and curiosity. She was a peculiar breed. "You're cute," he said innocently and wrinkled his nose, admiring how unqiue Tegen truly was. "You are different, to be fair. This also circles back to our conversation about stereotypes - but I digress. I am glad you chose to talk to me, though."

"You think I'm cute?" She asked, almost clarifying it. Whilst the compliment might've been more geared to her mannerisms, anything that could be alluding to a cuteness in appearance made he feel happy; almost took away the years of isolation she brought upon herself, "You've got good taste." There was a bashful smile on her face, but she shrugged. "I guess then... maybe sometimes different is good? Nobody chooses to be different subconsciously at first though, right? Everyone makes that decision."

He nodded his head to confirm and tossed her a sidelong grin, which made his features look softer. "Different is good," he said and yawned, using the back of his hand to stifle the sound. He hadn't slept well last night and exhaustion was finally creeping in. "I suppose yes and no. I chose to be different but I feel that maybe I always was different to begin with. Maybe I didn't choose it."

"Oh." She felt bad a little, noticing the way he changed in demeanour. It wasn't like Tegen to care. She was a self-proclaimed Queen Bee; she usually would have very little time for someone like Jasper. Except, he intrigued her. In their small conversation, she had grown to be fascinated at his answers, mostly because they were so vastly different from her own views. "Well this you is interesting to talk to," She said, a matter-of-fact tone emerging out of habit more than anything else, "You're peculiar - in a good way."

"Same here," Tegen replied easily. Jasper appealed to her curious, more inquisitive nature - a side of her that she rarely indulged in so the change was nice. That, and he was easy on the eyes. That never mattered to Tegen, mostly because she was so harsh on her own looks, but it made it a little easier naturally. "If I'm peculiar in a great way, then you're peculiar in the best way." Whilst her statement half came from her competitiveness streak, it also bore it's origins in not wanting him to feel discredited; though they'd been speaking for barely any time at all, she felt like she couldn't let him not feel sub-par.
