Luckily for the world, Dakota's excellent personality was not affected by his time living on the streets. His traits of being the kind of guy to drop everything at a moment's notice to help a friend was never lost, always willing to help his fellow homeless people. He took care of them while they were sick, gave them part of his food, and was in many ways a leader among the homeless population of NYC. His intellect also never faded, still being among the brightest wizards of the age. His extreme loyalty to family is also shown by his now desperate quest to find his wife and child and reunite with them once again.
His negative traits also came with him however, he's still overly humble, despite not forgetting anything about his abilities (he had a remarkable recovery rate according to the healers that helped him). He still tends to take on more than he can handle, still puts his needs dead last, which again, shined very clearly on the streets of NYC. He still doesn't express his feelings very well, refusing to show emotion, even as he nursed one of his closest homeless friends as they slowly died from cancer. Overall, his personality at least, did not change from before his kidnapping.
Dakota was born to Jack Cramer and Emily Willard. Jack was her school boyfriend, but when Jack found out that Emily was pregnant he fled. So Emily was left to raise Dakota on her own. Emily was a caring woman and did her best to raise her son right. She never hid magic from him, so when his first sign of magic came he was excited rather than surprised. A local bully was beating him up, and Dakota wanted him to leave. So Dakota made him leave, by sending him 100 feet through the air. The bully wasn't hurt but he freaked out and ran. Emily was excited for her son and that night they celebrated.
Dakota was a nice boy, so when he went to Ilvermorny (Horned Serpent, though Pukwudgie also would have taken him) it wasn't surprising that he became very popular. When it came time for the dating scene... Dakota was never single for very long. He's the perfect gentleman, so girls adored him. They usually broke it off with him, claiming he was too good for them. Dakota was crushed every time, but it never lasted long. By the end of the next month some new girl would ask him out.
When Dakota graduated, he returned home. Emily was ecstatic to have her son, even if only for a little while, for Dakota had applied to be a teacher at Salem. He taught there for the next two years, then his mother became ill. He tended to her after that, unfortunately the lines killed his mother. Dakota was 19. He then felt an extreme urge to leave for London. So he did, Dakota packed his bags and left for London.
Dakota got a job teaching Transfiguration at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft or Wizardry, eventually working his way up to the Head of Ravenclaw. It was then that he met Faith Bagman, the pair slowly starting to date. In fact, everything about their relationship was taken very slowly. The pair didn't want kids, so they didn't feel a need to rush things. It took a long time, but eventually Dakota proposed to Faith and the pair were wed in early July of 2031. As stated before... they didn't want kids, but the universe had other plans for them and in early October of 2035, the Willards had a baby girl, named Emily, after Dakota's mom.
Unfortunately, nothing in life was ever easy. Dakota was promoted to Headmaster in 2036 and things were really looking up for the couple... than in the eyes of the rest of the world, Dakota just vanished. The reality however was much darker and more upsetting. Dakota was an outspoken creature rights activist, and in the wake of anti-creature sentiment, a certain group of people decided that having the Headmaster of Hogwarts being an outspoken creature rights activist was not in their best interests. So, just before his daughter's first birthday, Dakota was kidnapped by anti-creature terrorists and taken back to his original home of the United States. Killing the Headmaster would have caused too much of a scene, but Headmasters had disappeared before. They wiped his memories, snapped his wand and dumped him in a New York City sewer.
Dakota was taken to a muggle hospital for medical treatment and when he came to, he didn't remember anything of his past life. The American government had no file of him anywhere and they didn't communicate with the magical government of the US, and since Dakota was pure-blood, no in the No-Maj community knew of him. So, after some medical treatment and some rehabilitation to return him to society, Dakota was set loose. He didn't have any No-Maj schooling, so he couldn't find a job anywhere, living homeless on the streets of NYC. As the years went by, some of his memories slowly started to come back together. Then one day in the fall of 2042, one of Dakota's former students from the UK recognized him.
The student brought Dakota back to the Magical Congress of the United States, who DID have a file on him. They brought him to the magical hospital who put him in long-term care to try and rebuild the former Headmaster's memories. It took several months, but eventually, Dakota was able to piece together his old life, and that he had a wife and child back in the UK. Dakota asked the MACUSA if they could bring him back to his family in the UK, who agreed to bring him back in January of 2043, which is how Dakota managed to find his way back to the UK, now on a mission to reunite his wife and child.
