「 Twyla Montgomery 」sixth year gryffindor ◈ omen of misfortune

Twyla is planted delicately on a cushioned seat before a grand piano, having sought out this place merely to pass time while Felix was recieving his check-up. She tentatively reached over and brushed her finger tips across the keys, her brows knitting together slightly despite the hesitation. After a moment, she begun to use her left hand to lazily push down on a few notes to construct a small rendition of To Build a Home by The Cinematic Orchestra. It was one of the few songs her mother had shown her.

The loud thum of each note drowned out the presence of Duke, her other hand carefully moving to properly touch the keys. It had been so long since she played that her fingers felt rusty and like they couldn't quite reach their full potential. Softly and ever so quietly, she begun to sing the lyrics. "There is a house built out of stone," she poured, her eyes closing ever so slightly as she winced at a missed key. "Wooden floors, walls and window sills." Painful memories of her mum filled her head, making the emotion in her tone change the intensity of her words. "Tables and chairs worn by all the dust - this is a place where I don't feel alone..."

"This is a place where I feel at home," she drew out with finality, knowing full and well that she couldn't continue the song. As if the lyrics stung, the girl stopped playing the piano and slid around on her chair, snagging her bag that rested beside the seat. That was when her eyes caught on Duke, realization soon dawning upon her and making her freckled face screw up with acidity. "Unless you wanna throw a coin in my hat," she snarked jokingly, "then I suggest you find entertainment elsewhere." She went into full defensive mode and crossed her arms over her chest, more embarassed than annoyed.

Twyla snagged the coin from the air and placed it delicately between her middle and forefinger, her gaze soon sliding back toward the boy. "I'm more of a thestral than a tiger. Much more dangerous," she warned and slipped the coin into her pocket. "I don't play," she protested her correction, her eyes narrowing carefully to observe him.

"Whatever helps you forget what you heard or saw," she said smoothly and moved past him, hovering down the aisle a little more with the occasaional glance in his direction. "You can only see a Thestral if you've seen death," she tossed and flicked a strand of her hair pointedly, as if to make a point that she didn't agree with him. "Thestrals are much cooler than tigers, trust me."

She wrinkled her freckled nose in response to his first question and ran her fingers through some wind chimes. "Thestral. Yes, I have. They're extraordinarily underappreciated," she said and looked up at him. "Which explains why you've never heard of them. That or you live under a rock."

Twyla seemed relatively unvexed by his blood status and moved around the end of the shelf so that she could peer at him through the objects from the other side. "So this will be a whole new world for you," she said with piqued interested. Somewhere near the front of the store she could hear the bell ring from the top of the door, a soft breeze soon reaching them from the open door. "Are you excited to go to Hogwarts?"

"Ah, the rich neighborhood," she said before crackling a sly grin, "me and my brother live there with my aunt." She moved backward carefully until she could lean her hip against the shelf and be a little closer. "I can't wait to spend hours on those staircases," she said with an impish smirk, a devilish glint filling her eyes. "You won't be able to get me out of the 24/7 open kitchen either."

"I'm definitely not on the rich side either," she said with a slight laugh and then plucked what looked like a traingle from a hook. She shot him another smirk, eyes half lidded with deviousness. "Open all the time, even on holidays. Never ending supply. All you can eat meals and sweets and I hear they even take requests."

In her mind, there was two divisions; snobby and very rich and sorta wealthy with status. She was moreso lower on the rich scale at Coral Gates but that didn't really bother her. "Pranks, you say?" she suddenly hyper-focused on that one topic, amusement dancing in her piercing eyes. She could feel a slight itching between her collarbones as her excitement grew. "I'm going to leave a legacy behind with my pranks. Or I fully intend to, at least."

Without skipping a beat, she competitively spoke up, "it will be me." Quirking a smile to make her statement seem less intense, Twyla slipped back into her facade easily. "I didn't say - and it's Twyla." She allowed her greenish-blue eyes to stray away from the boy, thoughts endlessly churning in her mind as an evil little twinkle appeared.

"You don't know anything about my capabilities," she warned, eyes carefully narrowing at Duke. "If you assume, you make an ass out of u and me." That was her aunt's favorite thing to say so a small smirk tugged at her mouth. She plucked a flute from the shelf and inspected it carefully despite having zero interest in playing one.

"I think I'm starting to get a picture," she said simply and set the flute down as he moved to another aisle. Apparently he wasn't the only one over the conversation. Twyla skillfully dodged the owner as she slinked out of the music shop.
